I don't ask for prayers, but my Great Uncle sure could use them for his girlfriend. He never said girlfriend, but he would say is lady friend. He is a devoted church Catholic man.
My Great Uncle's girlfriend is dying, she is on hospice. More history, My Great Aunt Ciel died 12 years ago. My Great Uncle and Great Aunt were married for 40 years. They were always by each others side. When my aunt Ciel was dying, my Uncle George paid for 3 $10,000 shots out of his own pocket (insurance would not cover it). He loved her more than anything in the world. when she died my Great Uncle was in a downward spiral spending all of his time at the taverns. One day his friends at his retirement home asked him to go to the movies. Well another person went with them that was going through the same downward spiral. Marianne is her name. Her husband of 40 years died a few years earlier. They started going with each other just to keep each other company. They will never admit that they are going out, out of the vows they took when they were married, but it was obvious that they had feelings for each other. My Uncle George would bring Marianne to all of our family get together, like Easter, 4th of July, Memorial Day, Thanksgiving, & Christmas.
My Uncle George was a WWII Army Ranger (he volunteered). He used to tell us limited stories about his time in the Army. When he fought in Africa then when he fought his way thru Sicily to Italy, then again in France - then how he ended his final tour in Norway when he was shot in the groin (he obviously had no kids) I never doubted him, but Marianne wrote more than 50 letters to Congress, My Uncle George was awarded his medals that he never got during the war almost 50 years later. A cable show was doing a show about his unit and before congress he and a few of his buds were awarded all that they had coming to them. He was awarded the Silver Star (the 2nd highest award given, its just below the Medal of Honor) for being behind enemy lines scouting out enemy tanks when his group was detected. His buddies were pinned down by enemy machine gun fire. He only told me 1 time about this when my Grandma died, only because that was the last thing she was talking about when she passed. My Grandma was so proud of her younger brother...
Well his buds were getting mowed down by German machine gun fire, he sneaked up from the back onto the position. He got his award for running up straight at a machine gun and kicking the machine gun out of the way before they could reload & fire at him, he shoot and stabbed and choked to death the enemies that tried to kill him. His award read that he single handily eliminated 7 enemy personnel. I tried asking about it on a few occasions and he would just start crying - he says that he is no hero and that he is afraid for when he has to answer to god for what he did. But he says that he did what he had to do to save his friends.
He is the funniest and most caring man that I know, the whole world would be a better place if their were more people like him. I joined the Marines in the hopes of trying to be half the man he was.
I am asking for prayers for as I call her my "Great Aunt" Marianne, and for strength for my Great Uncle George, I am just worried that he wont be able to handle another great loss in his life. He always refers to her as his "Guardian Angel". I am so sad, I went the past 2 days to visit with them, my Great Uncle is waiting on he hand and foot with the love of a husband. I just pray that she will pass with no pain and my Uncle will be able to cope. Thank you in advance...
