Poppin Q's

New member
I went out this am to go to some of my old sportsfields and totlots just to relax and try some different settings to see if there would be some silver showing up...I was locked on gold signals as well, stabbing everything, but couldn't get out of the clad, seems the Q's were really popping this am, (full moon) don't know how I missed so many of them before, big old ping stops you dead in your tracks! Very few fresh drops, a few multidenom stacks. Strangest thing was that little arrowhead down in the corner, its junk, but there is a really tiny 1903 Indian head penny imbedded in it. I stayed in the low totlot mode for quite a while, then switched to a 75sens, -2 thresh, 1 disc to no avail, but I did get to dig up some deeper coins, my screwdriver is 6" and I may have to get a 9. I left that one tab in there to represent a hundred. 111 coins, for 10.87. Hope somebody found something great and will post it!

Another great haul!!! Well done, Mud!

Hey Mud
How long do you spend detecting in a session? You are certainly getting a lot of finds!

Foggy

Wow Mud, you were in the zone! We need to get serious here...the East side boys are kicking booty in the water.

Thanks guys. Jake, they tried to film me once with one of those high speed cameras the ballistics guys use to watch a bullet go through a block of jello, but I was just a blur!...a cop once clocked me going across a soccer field at 121mph! I'm so fast I detected right down the middle of a high school football field while the game was going on! I'm so fast I found a ring on the beach that was dropped tomorrow!... Foggy, speed sweeping really tires a fellow out, I'm only good for a few hours, then I need a nap...most of the time I just drive around looking for spots, listening to the radio, and drinking coffee, I guess I typically spend maybe 15 minutes to a half hour at one location, so its smoke jumping, in, out and gone!...Les, I hear you there! We have got to start booking the gold to keep those east side guys intimidated...you know what that means...tough duty. By the way, that Fpoint of yours sure is helpful on the deep sideways coins, I've been using it a lot lately.

 Nice write up, Mud! Safe to assume we don't have a movie coming out anytime soon?

Ok, EZ4SURE, if you do a Youtube search for coin popping, there are some videos out there to watch, and they are in focus so easy to watch. I'm afraid Mud's video would be to blurry to learn anything from.

HH Mud!

I don't have a video camera...isn dat veerd? I've seen some of those youtube vids of "coin poppin" with a screwdriver, I don't do it like that. Also, its soil condition specific, over here we have a nice sandy loam, but in a clay/chert matrix it would be tougher. Regardless, any target in the top 3" is quicker and cleaner to stab than dig. In the right soil a fellow can stab and pull deeper targets. A screwdriver is nice for use when digging too, stab it in the ground right over where you think the target is, and run it in to the depth you think the target is, then dig a plug around it...it sort of acts like a little pot handle to pull out the plug. I dig plugs about 4" in diameter, which is about four cuts with the trowel, and generally the coin is right under the tip of the screwdriver and falls out of the clod. You get pretty good at the "feel" of a coin, or tab, or ring after a while. I carry a spare screwdriver, because I would be shut down if I ever broke or lost it...both of which have happened to me.

Wasn't he some sort of movie star in the 50's? Not that I would ever be a movie star, too shy, Folks have told me I look like Bruce Willis though, after he got real beat up in the Diehard movies!
I'll get the both of you eventually...Maybe I'll do a drive by and salt both of your areas with all the rotten zincs and fake jewelry I've been collecting for some special occasion...?
Mud

Please dump the tabs in my area, I need to practice my stabbing technique, not to mention I need to find some rings, and I'm getting desperate! :look:
