Possible Canister Shot?

New member
This past weekend I found what appears to be an iron ball weighing .630 pounds (10.1 oz) on a digital kitchen scale. The diameter of the ball is 1 11/16 inches. This item was found very shallow, maybe 5 inches, in Medford, NJ. Research on the web leads me to believe that it is possibly a canister shot from an 18 pound canon. I welcome any and all opinions, thanks.

Thanks for posting ! Its about time. lol.

Thanks. Do you know when this caliber shot began being manufactured? There aren't any civil war battle sites in my area but there were numerous iron works/forges in operation from colonial times in the area. So far I've only been able to find references on the civil war websites.
