Posting one of my super clad hunts for your enjoyment. (Or not.)

Today I took another road trip with the goal of reaching 5605 total coins in 2009. I needed 261 coins which sounded fairly easy on paper. It took me 5 sites and 7 hours to do it.

5605 coins is how many coins I found in all of 2007 and I used to think it would be the most I ever found in one year. In 2008 I made it on 7/5. This year I reached that goal around 5 weeks earlier than that. I guess I am officially hooked.

Here are my stats thusfar in 2009. 50 total hunts. 5633 total coins. 111.54 coins per hunt. I am behind on gold from last year but ahead on silver. I am a bit behind on wheats.

The rest of the junk for today. 289 coins (20 short of my best day ever.) Three wheats. A costume ring and bracelet. A cool B-1 bomber toy. Football fob. License plate fob. .222 shell.

I did not post yesterdays hunt. My silver streak was broken. Last hunt before that I found silver items back to back. Now back to back hunts with no silver. Had an encounter with a teacher who strongly suggested I donate all of my hunts to the student council. I took the 14 cents I had found (I had just started) and offered it to him. He ranted at me for a bit and asked me to empty my pockets. I was taken aghast and refused. I told him that if this is the sort of respect you teach his young pupils to have for their fellow citizens, that it is no wonder our country is where it is. He left and came back in about 15 minutes with a lot more to say. He told me I was stealing from children. I expected the police who never came. I had time to think of a response this time. I told him when I had found coins enough to pay my school taxes in 2009, that I would gladly send the school a check for anything over that amount. I then suggested he donate a large portion of his salary to the student council if he is truly concerned because he is stealing from parents. I then asked him to please leave me alone. Sometimes I think I have a tattoo on my forehead that says " Please Screw With Me." That is bad encounter 2 or 3 for the year. I let them roll off my back as much as possible.

Going to take tomorrow off, I think. Maybe not. If I do go out it will be someplace close and only for an hour or so.

Chris

PS Today is Memorial Day. Remember those who died while fighting for your freedom. (This goes for our allies too. Canada, UK, Australia et al.)

I am good at finding clad. Better at it than finding anything else, so I find a lot of it and I love it all! Maybe not the corroded zinc cents that I can't spend. I have bought a one ounce gold coin and two pistols all with clad. I still have almost 2 grand in clad in my bank account collecting interest. Clad is real money!

Chris

Good clad amount in that yearly total. Congrats !!
You may have a bulls eye target on your back never mind your forehead

It's impossible to dig more junk than I already do. You should have seen the bed of my truck today before I swept it out and properly disposed of it. Had to be 2-3 pounds of crap.

Chris

You're on fire Chris!:clapping: Isn't it great that your finds go up with experience. i find the same happens on my Sydney hunts. you don't think that it's possible to better the previous years hunt, yet you do.
I sure wish I had spots that are as productive as the ones you hit, as it'd be great to hit such coin totals.
Mick Evans.

I'll gladly show you around to some of my spots. You might be disappointed by the lack of higher denomination coins, though.

I am definitely a lot more proficient than I was two years ago. I think the Pro-Pointer helps me to find so many coins so quickly too. My stamina has also improved. 7 hours detecting today and about 2 driving.

Chris

289 coins! Throw in some junk and I'll bet you performed 400 deep knee bends! Man that hurts my knees just thinking about it. Great hunt and yearly total!

I was wondering where you had gone to this morning. Here's why. I ran out of batteries and went into my field kit to get the ones you sent me. Then I remembered that I used 2 of them for my TV remote and never added two more to my kit. I cussed myself and this guy who was playing with his kids (who were watching me) asked what was wrong. I said I was short two double A's and he went into his car and gave me two. Said with kids you always need batteries for something. I gave the kids a turn on the 2500 and we were even.

At least 400. Strangely, I'm planning spots for tomorrow.

Chris

I'm still around - just real busy with work and two kids in basebll. It doesn't help that I manage one team and coach the other. My grass is a foot tall too! That must be some kind of clad honey hole you have there.

I believe you. And to think that the people watching White's infomercials actually think us experienced detectorists only dig up coins and rings.

WOW Chris that's quite a haul there mate  i actually try ed to match your high coin count today i said to my self i"m going to get 200 coins but i failed miserably  i really don't know how ya do it .
as for encounters with people #1 rule don't make eye contact:look: #2 wear headphones :detecting: #3 have a scowl on your face when detecting :ranting: this will keep most of the fruitcakes away  as for the rest know the laws for detecting in your area & if your in the right tell em to naff off.
i"v only had three unpleasant experiences wile detecting in 11-12 years & only left one of those times on the other hand i"v been politely asked to leave public parks by grounds keepers twice & both times i left after a quick chat to find out why.
