Prayer needed for ................................................

me to sell my 1977 Mercury Monarch! My son looked up the prices that they are bringing and the cheapest one was $4,500.00! Mine is in very good shape, but does need some repairs on the brake lights, because of crossed wires and is needing a tune-up and probably a new battery, as it has been in my driveway for quite some time without being started! Battery was new but haven't driven it, since it wouldn't pass inspection without the brake lights checked out and repaired! With no power-steering I couldn't drive it very well any more because of my weakness and illnesses!

The reason I am asking for prayer is: I rec a hand-written note in my mailbox with a name and phone # if I am interested in selling it and I am, but I would like to price it at $5000.00 and does anyone think that is too high for a nice-looking 1977 Mercury Monarh with out power and A/C??? Thank you for your prayers! I haven't called the person as yet, just praying first for the right time and price to quote to him! I was offered $1000,00 for it about a year ago! Ma Betty

You might look on ebay to see what that model is bringing. There are other car forums also where they will give you a more informed price on it. Good luck, Will pray for results, steve in so az

Thanks everyone for your prayers and I will try checking the prices on ebay for older cars...but I think I tried that and the Net a year or so ago and couldn't find anything, but my son did when he was on the Net. Don't know what he used, as I was checking out the Mercurys but the Monarch didn't seem to be on there very much! I don't imagine there are many of them for sale, as I was told many years ago, when I worked at The Lutheran Church MO Synod that my car was really nice, but most of them like mine, were sold in sale barns because of split dash-boards and other problems! Will try calling him early next week and tell him what I would like and then I will know whether he really wants it or not.....I won't give it away though, as it is too nice of a car for a 1977! May God Bless you all! Amen! Ma Betty

Don't know anything about what would be a fair price for the car, Ma. A lot of people, some dealerships too, use the Kelly Blue Book to determine car prices for trade in or individual sales. Prices are based on the info you enter about your car. Here is the site if you'd like to give it a look see and follow the steps in getting a price. http://www.kbb.com/used-cars We have used this a few times in the past for buying/selling/trading used or new vehicles. I pasted the address for used cars since yours in used.

one said his was in real good condition (can't rem now the miles) and he was asking $2500 and the other one said his was in excellent condition with only 11K miles on it and he was asking $10,500

Thanks Lisa, but I have used that one before and my used car when priced as just a used car isn't worth much, but it is an older car in fairly good condition and I believe it should be worth a lot more! It has 117,000 plus miles, I think, but will have to check it again! It was my dad's and was purchased from his estate! I kept it in the garage until about 2 to 3 years ago, when Cliff and I moved it out of the garage to put other stuff out there when we were trying to get my house ready for sale! But that is far as we got because of his getting really, really ill and then hospitalized and in Hospice where he passed away, Aug 12, 2009!

My son says it is worth more than a $1000.00 which has been offered a year ago and could be worth $4500.00 to $10,000.00, so just checking and trying to be fair to anyone who buys it, but I also need all the money I can get from selling it! May God Bless us both! Amen! Ma Betty

Thank you, Theresa, for the info! I tried ebay and couldn't really find any Mercury Monarchs but a lot of Mercurys were for sale...even older year ones! Mine has somewhere around $117,000 miles and because it has been sitting outside for awhile, I may not get as much as I hope for it....but will be praying along with everyone else that all will work out with the price and the buyer! I'm going to check out the name and see where he lives and whether he is kin to my friend since childhood, because he has the same last name as her before marriage! God is goooood and I know He is my Savior and helper in Jesus' name and He won't forsake me! May God Bless! Amen! Ma Betty

I seen one one craigslist in fort wayne for 2500 . In really good shape I seen them for around 5000 thousand and up. That is real good paint and everything.

Thanks Travis and Mike! I called this evening and his wife answered the phone! They may or may not want to come see the car and check it out, because when I told them I would like $5,000 for it, she didn't think her husband could pay that much! I told her they could make an offer, as I have another offer of $1,000 a year ago! I don't know if he still wants to buy it, but I know in the condition it is in, it is worth more than most would want to pay for just a used car to use! I am hoping someone who likes and restores old cars will be interested in it, as it wouldn't take a lot of restoring for this one! Anyway, God knows what is best for the buyer and me, the seller, so I lean on and trust in Jesus.....patience works out for the best most of the time!! Amen! Ma Betty

Thank you, Paul! They have children because he wasn't home and had taken their son someplace, so he may want it for a second car for his son or family to drive! Anyway what will be, will be.....I remember Doris Day singing that in one of her movies...I always like her singing and acting! May God Bless! Amen! Ma Betty

Thank you, Martin! May God keep blessing and meeting all your needs! Amen! Ma Betty

First you said that one year ago you were offered $1,000 for it. You said you want $5,000 for it. The Mail buyer has not returned your call yet in person himself. Suggestion One : Split the price. Ask for $5000. If they say no and make you an offer then go back and forth from there. They offer $2,000 ask for $4,000. Then they offer $3,000 You say $3,500. Got the idea. Second is that you said it has over 117,000 miles on it, the brake lights are gone and it's been outside for ages.Truth be known is that if you get $2,500 for it be happy and take the money. The engine has turned over mileage wise. the brake light wiring may not be the only wiring problem and yes that battery is definitely dead after several years and no use. The other thing is that it has no Power Steering or AC. Both are big no - no's. So all in all I hope this helps ok.Best Wishes. PEACE:RONB

Thanks Ron and I haven't heard any more from the man after his wife and I talked on the phone! I believe they thought they could get it real cheap as a second car to for his son (sons?) to drive. I had a young man who grew up in the neighborhood asked me if I wanted to sell it, as his sister needed a car. I didn't remember him, but told him it wouldn't be a good car for his sister! The signal lights worked for years and years, but after I took it to the auto shop, that is when they told me I had a problem and I wanted it to pass inspection and would have except for the signal lights.....brake lights worked find! I believe they did something to it to get more money from me, but I didn't have them repaired because I wasn't using it any more! I drove it since 1984, when my mom died to take dad back and forth to places for his business and then purchased it in 1985 from his estate when he passed away in Oct 84. It had 41,000 miles that dad had put on it in 6-7 years.

I had a 1985 Ford Ltd Crown Victoria that I really liked and drove part of the time, but it kept giving me trouble and finally almost gave it away....not even enough to pay for the last expenses I had on it! That's why I will wait patiently for the right buyer at the right time or sell it in an auction or my kids can when I die! The car has only been out of the garage since FALL 2007, when my brother charged the battery, which was new, but was not started often enough, and we moved it outside to be able to use the garage for storage, so it hasn't been out there for years! I had to keep the Toyota in the garage to keep from having to scrape ice and clean snow off it when I needed to go somewhere!

I used to keep it oiled and greased repaired and took care of it well....also cleaned, washed and polished it also but with taking care of Cliff and being ill myself, now, I haven't been able to do that! My Toyota also needs a good cleaning, but you know since I was such a cleaning nut most of my life, I think God just allowed me to slow down and take life easier with the time made to serve Him more!

I'm not worried about the car....I'm hoping to get it repaired, cleaned and back in the garage again, when the STUFF is cleaned out! Cliff and I had been packing and moving stuff since 2006 but mostly in 07 and 08 and then he became so ill that we were going back and forth to the drs and hospitals and then he ended up in the Hospice Care where he passed away Aug 12, 2009! You have no idea how my life has been since my ex left in 1986 and before because of physical and emotional illness! But you know God was and is with me and I have drawn closer and closer to Jesus because of all the hardships (all my life) and I am far better off now with Jesus than I ever was before! Praise God for abundant life here and for eternal life in His glorious Kingdom, someday! May God Bless! Amen! Ma Betty
