Pretty much back up and running on the laptop...using Linux instead of Windows

Linux seems to be more stable than Windows and so far does about everything program-wise I was able to do with Windows....and the programs are all free...so is Linux a free operating system. Running Ubuntu Linux...an easy install and programs load and unload easily. Only thing I miss is Netflix which so far is not available to be seen on Linux - only Windows and Mac.

This will be the year of the Penguin (logo for Linux). Nice way to start a new year with a new operating system and cold outside to go with the Penguin

Congrats....on being back on board and posting! You are a Computer Whiz....wish I could even be half as wise with the Computer and its works! May God Bless! Amen! Betty

under a program called WINE (this is a Linux program that is a Windows interface program). Not all programs will though. Using WINE also one cannot use the Windows setup exe programs to install the program.

Not all Windows programs will. Kinda trial and error to see if they do or don't.

I have learned how to put them back together and in some cases learned that taking things apart leads to spare parts

I have dabbled with computers since the 80s and used to run an electronic bulletin board system (BBS) back then....learned a lot about computers and learned that family should have been more important than computers.

People are more important than things. Family and family in Christ are more important than anything material in this world (save the Bible).

I don't think of myself as a computer whiz - just a guy crazier than others who will do something maybe sane people wouldn't do.

Well, at least you are not afraid to try and that is how we learn.....but I wouldn't tackle a Modem or even my Monitor, as it sure wouldn't work when I got through tearing it apart.....I can't even fix the programs that are in it....let alone anything else! Live and learn in Christ and in working on something that is needed to glorify and praise the Lord and spread the Good News of Jesus! May God Bless! Amen! Betty
