Prizm adjusment screws

mcrules

New member
Hi,
Does anyone know if there is documentation regarding the two adjustment screws on Prizms? I was told the right one is for volume. If anyone knows which screw does what and how to adjust them that would be a great help.

Thanks!

JD

One is for threshold and the other GB. It won't take too long to figure out the difference. Lock the PP button on. Then adjust one screw. If the threshhold changes then that's the threshhold pot. Then over a clean piece of ground in the pinpoint mode bob your coil from 1/2 to 12 inches off the ground. Adjust the GB pot to where there is no tone variation. I did have the instruction with pictures once. I'll try to find them for you.

Please tell me we can replace the internal pots with external pots likes the classic units

You can. Rob

I have got the Whites manual for the adjustments but the file is 900 kb and to large for this site..

E-mail ?

Those surface mount trimmers are about 3/16 square. It would be a very hard job. I suppose it could be done but that is too small for me to try it.

[size=large]I made the mods to my Classic II SL myself...I used a 50K linear taper pot for the threshold (thinking now I should have used an Audio taper), and a 100k ten turn pot for the ground balance...was not too hard if you have some basic soldering experience. use stranded wire, and NOT solid, as the solid will eventually break from being folded in the case...Choose your mounting locations with care, as the pots must clear other parts on the board when assembled...These pots may very in value on different detectors though...

I've modded my Classic III SL for a genuine Whites 4900/5900 ground balance knob.
The hardest part was de-soldiering the micro pot off the composite board. Right under the made in America flag is a little hole you have to enlarge for the new pot. The threshold was set just right on mine so I left it.
This little mod sure smartens up this hot little detector, I highly recommend it.

50k on the ground balance control, and 100k on the threshold control.

Use linear tapered pots. (you did)

Not really necessary to have a multi turn pot on the GB. It does fine with a single turn.

[size=large]You are correct sir...I reversed which pot was which...I originally had a 1 turn pot for the GB, but wanted to see what the 10 turn would do...Not much of a difference really...
When properly Ground Balanced the Classics are coin magnets...seems to hit the hardest on copper and pull tabs though...hmmm...but with a little practice, you can tell the difference in the sound...

When someone finally adds ground balance & threshold controls to a Prizm let us know. This would be welcome news.
