Pro Pointer battery questions.........

I asked these in the Garrett users forum, but, since many of you use the Pro Pointer with the F-series locators, I thought I would toss them out here, too.

What would be the expected lifespan of an alkaline battery in the Pro Pointer? (I know it would depend on how often used and for how long each time, but, a ballpark estimate would be nice) And, regarding rechargeables, I have a number of new 9v NiMH batteries, a charger and I am sure they are okay to use since the manual shows a charger as an accessory. I know the NiMH batteries wouldn't last as long, but, could I expect half as long? Lastly, does the efficiency of the Pro Pointer decrease prior to the low battery signal going off or does it remain at full power until that time?

I'm sure I will find out in due time from my own use, but, was hoping someone would know so I would know how many batteries to carry with me on a hunt!!

Couldn't tell you the actual use hours but it a long time, when it starts to run erratic I turn it off and on and if it still keep chirping I replace the battery.

I have used a recharge battery for over 6 months now and it still works fine..

Thank you, gentlemen. And, Elton, that is really good to know on the rechargeables!!

I dont know about actual battery length of life. Obviously the more you use it, the more the battery goes down, but it really seems to go some distance. I do notice as a battery is slowly going down there might be some slight loss of proficiency, so if Im going someplace special, I change out my battery. Its a quick enough process, to take the cap off and try the new battery and without putting the cap back on compare it to the old one on a nearby target like your watch, etc. I usually use those older batteries on other devices at home, or keep a few in the car in case I need spare. The Propointer in my book is an absolute necessity. CO

Just a quick follow up, now that I have had a chance to use the pointer for a while.........I think this is one great piece of machinery. For a small hand-held device, it has a very good recognition at depth. Most shallow targets can be pinpointed before the digging starts. Big time saver in each hole, giving more time for the next target!!!

The original battery is still in the pointer and I have made, at least two 6 hour hunts and a number of smaller hunts in the range from 45 minutes to two hours. I do shut the probe off when not in usel....l also carry extra battries for everything that uses them. Insurance.
