Nauti----Looks like there will be a LOT of torque (pressure) on those small coil ears for such large coils.----Are they going to hold up without the ears breaking do you think?-----Del

As OL said they are reinforced and do seem quite strong.The other thing is the coil isn't as heavy as you would think,i was very surprised.The plastic coiltek uses seems to be a bit more pliable than that of some other coils......more flexible and less brittle.Time will tell but i'm confident there won't be a problem.

Well i did an air test on the 18 inch compared to the 15x12.......i don't take much from such tests but it gives an idea if comparing coils on the same machine.
The test was done indoors so sensitivity had to be turned down compared to settings used on the beach to keep it stable........the same settings were used for both coils.
Nickel:
10 inches 15x12 12 inches 18.
Dime:
9 inches 15x12 10 inches 18
Quarter:
11 inches 15x12 12.5 inches 18
Cent:
9 inches 15x12 10 inches 18
£2 uk coin:
13 inches 15x12 15 inch 18
1938 uk penny George v:
14 inches 15x12 17 inches 18

So the 18 inch coil is getting more depth again,particularly as the coins get bigger,particularly the old George v penny......i was surprised at the nickel gaining an extra 2 inches with the 18 inch coil but the quarter only 1.5 inches??
Im out on Sunday to test the coil where it counts on the beach,but it looks promising with possibly slightly more depth than the 15x12 but loads more coverage.

I've found that if you're going to air test, it's best to do it with the coil on the ground so it has something to GB against. Then test by moving the item you're testing above the coil. The results tend to be a bit more realistic. These machines really do need to GB against something more than air.

Still interesting numbers, Nauti. Not too surprising, but possibly of significance.

It's a great coil bud.......my finds rate at the beach has gone up using it,mainly because of the extra ground coverage i think,thats why i got the 18 inch.
I used to think depth was the most important factor on the beach but on the beaches i hunt,i have found that most of my good finds have come up in the first 12 inches,any depth below that is in the saturated sand where targets tend to sink out of reach.The 15 incher will pick up most rings and coins to this depth so i don't really need a coil that goes much deeper.I'm now thinking that more ground coverage is the factor that will get me more finds and using the 15 seems to add weight to this......i'm hoping the 18 incher will improve the finds rate even more.

To be honest it is quite heavy so i imagine i will have to get some sort of harness if it proves to be a keeper........until then i will just have to eat lots of spinach.
