Pro XL using a 6B coil - - Can it be used?

I have a Pro XL and was wondering if I can use the old 6B coil from my 5000/D or 6000/D ser. 2 detectors??? They both operate at 6.59 kHz. operating frequency and (if I can recall) they are both of the 5-pin configuration. If this is Okay, this would help me in saving $$$ instead of buying the Bullseye 5.3 . . . If not, let me know your thoughts.

The older-style coils are really not compatible. You'll find a deal on the classifieds forums, especially if you just ask. Better do it quickly, however, as I am looking for a choice-condition 5.3 BullsEye right now for a 6000 Pro XL. :) You have competition.

Check with some local dealers as well because you might be surprised what they might have on hand, and maybe be willing to make you a good deal on one.

What do you mean by "not compatible" with the Pro XL? I'd thought it would be the same even the operating frequency? Can you please explain?

White's has used the 6.592 kHz frequency for decades, as have many earlier Bounty Hunter and Teknetic's models. But w/o an engineer's technical explanation, let me just say the manner in which the circuitry was designed was different. A most recent example is their Classic series. Before the Classic SL line they had the Classic I, II and III which operated at 6.59 kHz and shared the same search coil set. It was the same as the former upper-end models.

Then White's made a change in 1988 when they brought out the Eagle II, 6000 Di Pro Plus and 5900 Di Pro Plus and introduced their new Blue Max series of coils. The standard coil on these three models was the 950. But it wasn't compatible with the former models, nor were the former coils compatible with these models.

While it might be possible to connect a mis-matched coil to a detector, and even notice some level of performance, it is not going to be fully compatible and provide the best all-around performance in all modes or settings.

I hooked a 6B to my XL Pro. Air test for a dime resulted in a distance of about 6 inches. This would result in depths dramatically less than that in the field.
