Problem with batteries supplied with Hawkeye!

First off I must stress, THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM WITH THE MACHINE! my Laser Hawkeye came supplied with a full set of batteries 'pre-loaded' into the battery pods. I installed the battery pods into the Hawkeye, and went out detecting for 5 hours on Sunday. I went out tonight for about 20 minutes, and then experienced total battery failure! 'HMMMM...' I thought, something not right here! I'm supposed to get around 20 hours of use out of these suckers, and I only got 5.20!
Went back home to install a set of 'Duracells' that fortunately I picked up today. When I opened the battery compartments, I noticed 'MOISTURE' and thought ' funny I aint been near no water'
had a taste, and thought ughhh! battery leakage!!! which SUCKS, considering the use-by date on them is May 2008!!!! I will be phoning my dealer tomorrow, and here's a picture of the 'offending items' so you all know what to look out for! I suggest if you have these nasty little suckers in your machine, take them out and bin them! HH charlie(UK).

Charlie, I had the same problem with my DeLeon but I noticed it right off when I did the battery check.
Such a minor problem! I chucked the batteries and placed new Duracell Ultra's in and haven't looked back.

just kidding.

I would uses a neutralizer and clean the battery boxes and try new batteries.
While I did not have a battery failure, I thought the supplied battery with my Eldorado did not last long either. While Batteries may have an expiration date I think they deteriorate on the shelf over time.
I always buy may batteries from a retailer I know has a High turnover rate, so I can be sure I`m getting fresh product.
I also change them often, every 4 weeks, weak or not.
I`m not going to say they are cheap, but they are too cheap to risk failure and equipment damage.

It's kinda funny. About, oh, maybe two years ago on a Tesoro forum, myself, Monte, & Al in Ga were goofing around with NEW names for detectors. We all agreed that Tesoro needs to change their detector naming practices.
One of the names we came up with (I believe me, but who cares) was the Tesoro Hawkeye. Other names included (if I recall corectly) the Tesoro Buzzard, The Tesoro Groundhog, and the Tesoro Bulldog.
Instead of Spanish names, they were more animal related, but admittingly silly ones. It looks like someone coincidently choose one of the less silly ones.
Or maybe Tesoro reads the forums more than we think?

Since The Hawkeye has a bcklight and carries the nickname of my Home State. I think it is unfortunate that it is only available in Europe

If it doesn't sell well across the pond, it will more than likely "Return Home" and be cataloged as a "Limited Time Offer".......

I'll try and respond to a few of them here. The 'Hawkeye' is apparently a 'De Leon' with a backlight! they both use the Cortes board, and over here in the UK, they are selling like hot cakes! Either the batteries supplied with mine suck, or someone installed them into the pods wrong! I went out today and bought 6 sets of Duracells for it. They were on special offer at my local supermarket! Packs of 8 for the price of a pack of 4 so they should see me into the new year!
I HAVE notified Tesoro by e-mail, and you just get a message saying they will respond to your query within 10 days ... (that fast huh?) C'MON TESORO, SHAPE UP, DON'T LET YOUR SLACK AFTERSALES CARE SPOIL A GOOD PRODUCT! if I had a problem or query about my DFX, I would E-mail in Scotland, and get a reply from the General Manager himself THE NEXT DAY! problem with the armrest cup screw? a pack of 3 in the post the very next day!
(free of charge I hasten to add). I'm not badmouthing here, just pointing out where they're letting themselves down!
