Problem with X-1 probe or EX2 ?

Not sure if I have a problem with my X-1Probe or my EX 2 . When I hit the switch over to pin-pointing mode and start pin-pointing the detector locks on to a high tone.It won't stop making this noise ( constant sound ) even if I hit the switch back to the detecting mode . The only way I can stop it is to turn the detector off . when I turn it back on it seems to work fine , but it will happen again when I go back into pin-point mode . This has happened the past few time I've been out detecting . Any Ideas what's wrong .

NOT to use the pinpoint button while using the X-1 probe at all. I mean, what's the point of using the X-1 that will give you the EXACT same tone you heard from your search coil if you're not going to take advantage of it ?
I never use the pinpoint button on the control panel after I've found the initial target, just flip the X-1 probe switch to ON and go at it and find your target in the hole or pile of dirt you've dug.
Just a suggestion, and one that never fails with me by the way :)
In reality, the X-1 is just a 1" coil that has decent depth and was designed to give the Explorer user the same tones they hear normally except you have something that can be stuck down into a hole with ease.
Hope this helps, maybe I misunderstood your question though ?

If by switch you mean the X-1 probe switch - it is most likely the switch on X-1 box. I'd ask Sunray - either call or e-mail them.

You can be sure as Joe mentioned by removing X-1 and seeing if MD operates normally.

Mike , I never use the pinpoint button on the control panel of the EX 2 . I just flip the X-1 probe switch to ON .

Wish I knew what to tell you then, just thought you may have been doing what I've seen several do over the years and it's an easy mistake to make unknowingly :)
Hope you get it worked out.

It seems to happen only when I flip on the probe . I tried it around my yard with the probe off of the shaft and only the coil connected... seems OK . But I didn't try it in ( EX 2) pin-point mode... never use it, just use front of coil .

I have used one for some years with great success.
On one occasion the switch on the Runray shaft box died a death but sunray sent me one to the uk and although a bit fiddley I fitted it ok.

When using the probe do not use it with the Explorer in pinpoint mode.Jerry.

It sounds like you have a short. Be advised that you may be zapping your Explorer ciruit boards so uh, um, don't do that. :D

If the X1 switch is bad or a wire has come loose you may be shorting transmit and receive wires or same to ground. Having done this myself several times I can say with confidence that its a bad idea. The Explorer is pretty rugged and my test bench Explorer has surivived some serious shorts but I would advise against any further testing with the Explorer under power.
