Programing

I know most people go to XChange to program their detectors but I have been trying to learn how to make new program modes just using the machine. I would like to know how to change programs out in the field. I have had the machine for over a year and have made many good finds so I am not trying to bash the complexity of the detector. I am able to make new mode programs and change settings such as pitch hold, ferrous coin, recovery fast, pinpoint sizing, and a few others. Trying to follow the manual for editing patterns and changing the tone ID profile has defeated me. I have read three books dealing with the ctx that have been very good about using the 3030 but they did not deal much with actual programing. It is not that I have not spent the time reading, trying to understand, and following directions in the manual. Just wondering how many other 3030 users can change all the options offered on the CTX without using XChange? Thanks for your thoughts.

tcp,
There's a quirk on the CTX that might be getting you...it did me;

In order to make a change to any program, you have to select the program first (as though using it), then go back in the menu and select it again to edit.

In other words, you can't edit a program you're not using. The option for edit isn't available in the drop-down menu.
Just scroll and select the program you want to edit, and repeatedly press that center button until the drop-down option menu appears again...viola...you can choose edit now.

And don't forget...the companion button to the center/select button is the 'back button'...and that's the pinpoint trigger.
But you can press the button that looks like a coil (to the left), and that's also a shortcut to start hunting immediately.

Thanks for the suggestions MINELABBOB and trojdor. I did not find the video that you suggested watching in your post MINELABBOB. There does not seem to be anything to click in your post to view the video. I created a new program and I noticed when I used it that Target Trace and Target Point Pinpoint were already selected. I had it set in the regular coin program before I created the new program but I used the Beach mode for the new program. I know I did not select them in the new program. Will they default to your new program without setting them if you have them selected in another program?

go google.com and look for the videos

yes they will stay unless you remove wen your in google type in customise your minelab ctx3030 detector setup an a video with
all info will come up

I made a Mode 6 program using the Coin mode in which I blanked out the entire screen except for quarters. I did this by using pattern 1 and editing with the identify button. I saved the program and then went back to Mode 1. Pattern 1 in the Coin Mode was all blanked out just like I had blanked out the new Mode 6 program. I could not find anywhere to go back to the original pattern 1 in the Coin Mode. Any thoughts on what happened or how it could have been avoided? Thanks for any help.

I don't know what you did. Next time use the xchange software to create and upload custom programs. It's 99% easier and fast, plus you can call them anything you want.
