Proper way to set the X-Terra Volume control

Greetings to all,

It has been a while since I have been on this forum but that's the way it goes some times.

You always hear that the proper way to set your volume is to run the detector a full volume and use the headphone volume volume to keep the loudness at a comfortable level.

Well Minelab had a better idea when they designed the X-Terra. The X-Terra volume controls only the MAXIMUM loudness that a target can reach (see the manual and the graph). When you use your headphone volume control to turn down the volume, you lower the volume of the loud signals and the volume of the weak signals. You really don't want to lower the volume of the weak signals because you might miss them. On the X-Terra, if you leave your headphone volume at full volume and use the X-Terra volume to keep the big or shallow target volume at a comfortable level you will NOT be lowering the volume of the weak targets. This is one of the fantastic design features of the X-Terra and every X-Terra owner should take advantage of this feature as it can lead to deeper and better finds.

God Bless and HH!!
