pro's and con's of the 705?

Thinking about swapping over to minelab's 705 I've never owned a minelab and need some input, Thanks HHH.

Great detector!! You will like it!! It also has a true all metal! I have one also as a backup or a main detector for certain conditions.

Light as a feather, multiple frequencies by changing the coil, versatile detector for gold or coin hunting, automatic ground balance with ground tracking, goes deep, sensitive to small gold items, nice large TID display, and fast recovery. Not much bad to say about it other than it will occasionally pick up a large piece of iron from time to time while coin hunting.

Does it have multi frequency while its on? I don't hear the best the world so a good tone would help, I want the etrac but its a little pricey for me.

No it does not have multiple frequency while it is on. It is a single frequency detector, but you change the frequency by changing the coils. There are different 3 frequency type of coils you can run on a 705, 3 Khz, 7.5 KHz, and 18.75 Khz.

What about the 15" coil what frequency is it? Thanks for all the info posted here, I just never owned a Minelab before and wanted to step up. HHH.

I think he is reffering to multi tone. Yes, it does have multi tone to assist with your hearing. Oh yeah, you can detect for ages on 4 AA batteries!

7.5 KHz DD I have never used one, you can find more information here on the coil http://www.minelab.com/usa/treasure-talk/coiltek-15-inch-all-terrain-coil-for-the-x-terra-series-part-1.

Also you can down load the X-Terra book for info on the 705 check out this post http://www.findmall.com/read.php?55,1482718.

You are welcome

Nice group of guys thumbs up, sounds like I'm getting a 705,if the detector is anything like the people using it, I'm getting one! Bravo! HHH.

All I can say, is that even when I step up to an E-Trac, I will keep my 705. It's a truely wonderful machine.

You won't be sorry if you go with it.

Pros .... I switched from one of the "other guys". There is a learning curve that I thought that I wouldn't get thru, looking back now it was probably due to my comfort with my other machine. Now that I'm used to it, my search to find ratio is higher than ever, the light weight is fantastic, the audio is easier on the ears, and being able to swap coils/frequencies is a huge bonus.

Downside .. very few. I don't like that not all coils are waterproof, I'm a little put off with minor quality control issues, and only a 1 year warranty as compared to some of the competitors lifetime warranty.. Of the (5) 705 Gold units in our circle of friends, (4) had minor QC issues, some were missing parts, mine was missing the brass insert that allows you to fasten the arm cuff. If you look, the control box does not line up straight with the coil as if the holes in the pole are drilled off center. All minor issues and I would still HIGHLY recommend the unit! I can also say that the warranty issues were resolved very quickly.
