[size=large]have finally got a pay-pal account working. would like to know the pros and cons of using it to sell things. any help please.

Pros: fast payment, cover both parties involved in a transaction, reputable

Cons: charge 3% of sale price (which isn't too bad for the convince it gives

As a seller the biggest two cons are the fees and the risk of chargebacks. Chargebacks are the biggest risk and happen when a buyer claims that the item was not received, received but not as described or they have used a credit card or Paypal account without permission (Stolen/hacked). You can avoid most of that risk by taking a few steps. Make sure to only accept payment from verified Paypal accounts and only ship to confirmed mailing addresses. Have the buyer sign for expensive packages and have them pay to insure them. Avoid oversees transactions when the amount is more than you feel comfortable losing and always ship with a service that offers tracking info (I won't ship anything to Russia (Russian Federation), Italy, Spain or Brazil).
Paypal also has a "gift" option and in that case you won't be charged the fees and you won't be as liable if something goes wrong, but the buyer is not protected and may not agree to send payment that way.

PayPal has helped me out twice in the years I have used it. Once was with a guy who promised to send me, I will say 7 items and only sent me 6. Of couse the one he didn't send was one he wanted to keep for himself. Long story made short, after contacting PayPal and filing a dispute and probably 2 months of waiting he did send the item and I was asked if I was satisfied. I was so I "Signed off" on the dispute and all was settled. I also had another item "No Show" and PayPal retrieved my money.

To me it's the best thing to use.

I didnt think Paypal charged unless you're a seller and you accept credit card payments. Am I wrong?

Not a problem, since 2001. Money orders can get lost in the mail. Pay with Pay Pal and I'll ship the next day most of the time......

I stopped using paypal about a year ago because they started putting holds on the money I had in there. It was pretty diff. doing business when I could'nt use my funds. They would only free up a little money at a time, as the sold items cleared. I don't know if they still do this but thought I should warn you....

Paypal is basically a e-bank and BillF they charge 3% on straight up sales ( fixed price ) or a percentage on auctions so it (varies) of final sale price to the seller . They don't always hold your account ran60 unless your not verified or have had issues with other buyers . And ZOFCHAK the "Chargebacks" are mostly over-sea's buyers most US sales are fully investigated , and that why I refuse to sell oversea's . Just for everyone's FYI ....
