prospecting mode vs coin

in my ground there is little to no mineralization, will putting it in prospecting mode still give me better depth in general?

You can try it, but I bet that you don't like it unless you're using it somewhere that has had little to no human activity.

Everywhere that people have been, there's trash. And in Prospect mode you'll find every bit of it unless you use Iron Mask to knock out small iron. And if you filter the signal with Iron Mask, you might as well use All Metal or minimal Disc and benefit from ID and more tones.

IMHO, the only practical situation to take full advantage of Prospect mode, is where you intend to dig every single little thing that you hear.....just like a prospector would.

So you think no one hunts in prospect mode unless they are"prospecting"?
That's not what I said. It is possible that you could run it in open fields.
My real point was, that if you filter it at all, with either IM or CM rather than wide open, you might as well have a better idea what's down there before you bother digging.

But go ahead and give it a try. Who knows.....you might like it. Don't be afraid to experiment.
I always say that the best you know is the best that you've had. Unless you try something different, you'll never know if there's something better for you or not.

Old Longhair knows his stuff! Tried the 705 with the 6" HF DD in prospecting mode today in the hard rock mining area of the San Juans. Heavy mineralization in the area as I was auto GB'ing in the 7 to 9 range. She (the 705) sang like a dishwater blond that just found L'Oreal at the dollar store. Seriously...even in the areas with no trash you could dig under or behind every rock. I tried adjusting iron mask up and down and it didn't make any difference. It would go off on everything (including the rocks...hot rocks I'm sure) so I switched back to Coin mode. Didn't find any gold but sure did dig a lot.

I agree that prospecting mode might be good to find gold nuggets in areas with little or no human activity, but be prepared to dig a lot of targets to find one nugget of gold. I do think that prospecting mode would be great for coin & relic hunting in areas where you have very few targets. I would toggle from prospecting mode to coin mode once a target is located to ID what's there before digging. Just know that prospecting mode sounds off on everything.
