PROSPECTING???

PACK RAT

Does anyone use a Tesoro besides the Lobo S.T. for a prospecting unit? If you do, what setup are you using? I live in Colorado and have been thinking about starting to prospect for gold in mountain area. Nothing against the Lobo but looking for more of a dual purpose unit. The Lobo sounds like it may be a bit heavier on the swing. Been fighting a shoulder injury so would like to keep the weight down. Have been looking at a Compadre due to all your great finds I've seen posted with it but don't know if it would be a detector of choice with prospecting? I know the Silver and Cibola are good units, but is there a need of the manual ground balance of the Vaquero and Tejon for this kind of hunting? I would appreciate any information and impute on this. Thank You

Off all the Tesoro machines, not counting the Lobo, the Tejon would be my next choice. Its a proven relic machine but due to the higher frequency it hits hard on gold. Plus, you will need a machine with manual Ground Balance when hunting for gold.

YES, the Lobo first choice then the Tejon is second and the third the Vaquero.

I sure wish they would put the SuperTRAQ technology, automatic ground balancing on the Tejon, Vaquero, and Cortez and also make the sensitivity control work in All Metal as well. These two things would make these machines MUCH better. I do not know why Tesoro has not done this? They were working on the Tejon for ages to perfect it and at the end did not add these two features that would make it better ?

NOW the Cortez has a manual ground balance knob too making it good for PROSPECTING also I would say. Scully, does the Cortez have equal depth to the Tejon which is Tesoro's deepest machine ??

Monte told me that the senstivity control only works in the Discrimination mode, not in All Metal being on the other machines>Tejon, Vaquero, and Cortez. BUT the Lobo has this on All Metal which makes it better for prospecting. PACK RAT, I would go for the Lobo and forget the other machines for prospecting and the Lobo is great for coins too. Lobo SuperTRAQ

[size=large].. If you'd prefer a lighter weight detector than the Lobo SuperTRAQ, I will make this suggestion:

Go with two (2) detectors, selecting one that is versatile for general purpose hunting, and nugget hunting in a pinch, and a nugget-specific model.

Which ones?

The Vaquero, as a general purpose detector, and try to find a decent condition Diablo

IMO the V is a very good gold detector it is very sentitive to small gold. I prefer it to the Lobo because it has manual GB & it is alot lighter, it can be swung all day. It is better with the Lobo DD 10" coil or the 5.75 DD.

The depth of the Tejon is much greater than the Cortes. You could use the Cortes in the All Metal mode but the Tejon hits harder on gold due to the higher frequency. The Lobo is a fine coin machine but a bit heavy when pole mounted.
