Pulled the trigger / New Explorer

Well guys, I have been detecting for 20 years. I started with a White's, and hunted with White's exclusively. I got an Eagle Spectrum about ten years ago, but I was never really happy with the Spectrum, and my detecting trailed off to nothing. Recently I was in Books a Million and picked up a copy of Western and Eastern Treasures and that got the spark re-ignited. But I still wasn't happy with the White's. I started researching on the internet about which would be a good new detector to get; and I knew I was interested in the White's DFX, as I had always used their machines. It was on the White's DFX owners forum that I first heard about the Explorer. When I was new to the hobby in 1991 I knew about Minelab, but I was an E-3 in the Army and couldn't afford a Minelab. The guys at the DFX forum love their machines, but they respect the Explorer. That means a lot if they can't just trash the Explorer, so I started researching other machines. After much careful consideration it came down to the White's DFX, Fisher 3-d or 75, or the new Explorer. The DFX was the first to drop out of the running. After weeks of research and prayer and talking to everyone I could about these machines I ran into a guy with a White's MXT 300 who let me mess around with his machine. He had it set up to give Tone ID like a Minelab. Right then, messing with the White's I decided to get a Minelab! Funny huh??? So I got a Spanking New Explorer from harryo right here on this forum, and he is a Fisher guy! He used the machine for an hour and decided it wasn't for him, I hope I can get accustomed to it.
So anyways, this is my intro to this forum. I imagine that I will have lots of questions for all, and hopefully lots of great finds to share with the group. I'm in Pensacola FL. I want to thank you guys in advance for the help and advice that you will give me in the coming weeks. My new machine will be here in probably ten days, and these are gonna be a long 10 days waiting for my new toy.
Kind regards,
toy4runr

Hey there Soldier, I was in the Army for 24 yrs..... Anyway, everyone has been great answering questions. I recently bought a Explorer SE and this forum has helped me tremendously in learning the Explorer, I have already found silver, jewelry and other items, where I have detected before.

Good choice on the Explorer toy4runr, There are allot of knowledgeable people on this forum. I have found that if you ask anyone for help they will help you happily and send you allot of information. DFXgregg helped me out allot, thanks Gregg. I'm still a newbie compared to all the Journeymen here. Good luck Mister and happy hunting.:minelab:

Welcome aboard!

Hope you have a lot of fun w/ the new machine when it arrives. If you stick it out, you'll really enjoy it, I think. I sure am. Had mine about 3 months but couldn't do much detecting for a while with it with the frozen ground and snow. My shoulder does start to get sore after 3-4 hours though. (I'm 48.) It's kind of neat how different things click as I proceed up the learning curve.

Thanks for all the kind words. Right now I'm like a kid on Christmas Eve. When it gets here I should have the Operators Manual memorized.

Toy4runr, welcome to the forum...
I'm sure you'll be very happy with your new Explorer !
I once had an Eagle Spectrum myself, very advanced indeed when it was released... :detecting:

Congrats on your new toy . When I was waiting for my EXII to come in , I went to the beginning of the Explorer classroom forum and started reading from the beginning . You can read about the EX XS, or move up in the posts and read about the EX II when it first came out , or go back just far enough to cover the EX SE. Its loaded with questions and answers from new users to the pros. Definately the best source of info on the Explorers anywhere! The EXP. is definatly NOT as easy to get used to as the Whites, but its not as bad as most people make it out to be. Just be patient and know that it will get better every time you use it. Good Luck ..HH Rich EX II
