Pulse Induction?

A

Hi,
I have seen a device, I believe made by Geowestern as well as others, that has 2 coils and is a 2 man operated device(this one was a model EM-83). It is known as a horizonal loop EM detector (for mapping differences in geological and archeological features). I was wondering if anyone has heard of these and is familiar with their theory of operation. Judging by a conversation I had it sounds like its based on pulse induction but I'm not sure. The transmitter coil is suppose to have thousands of turns of wire which doesn't sound like PI. Does anyone have any technical info on these devices? How they work, etc?
Thanks,
Fred
