I got up early to beat the heat and took the F5 Sharpshooter combo to one of my trashiest spots for a shakedown run. I like the physical size of this coil. Sometimes a 5 inch coil feels like you will never cover any ground. The 5.5 inch width makes this like the 5 inch coil and I quickly found out to use the tip as a probe. I was wiggling this coil into some tight spots and it really performed. Signals are tight and precise, much better than the 11 inch coil. There are several duck food dispensers around the pond and they are mounted to metal poles. I knew there were coins around the bottom of these machines because they take quarters, but every one of my big coils overloaded within 18 inches of the pole. By using the tip of the Sharpshooter I slowly started probing in a two foot circle of the pole. 80-84 signals were every two inches. I found 14 clad quarters in this circle with some inches from the pole!
After clearing out these surface to 4 inch deep quarter hotspot, I methodically rehunted the area again. I got a very weak, barely audible 90-91 tick and from 7 inches I found a 1958 silver Canadian quarter. I ended up with 52 coins in just two long passes around half of the pond. I started the first pass at the sidewalk and put up with the rebar grunt every foot or so. I found many coins between the rebar signals. All in all, this coil is the perfect coil for the F5. All coins showed up identical to the stock coil with tones and numbers. It is like having a small coil with coverage.
