Quarter

Guess Im gonna have to break down and buy a digital camera. Found my first Barber today and it was a quarter,1912. I was all smiles. Aint it great how that silver just shines down in the hole. It was around 5 inches and sounded good and tight and the meter on my XL Pro locked on quarter as I walked around getting different swings on it. It is a bit worn tho but came out of the ground clean.
I was told of an old lot in town, house is gone now, but it had a cistern and part of the house was built over it. The little lady that told me about it, found several silver dimes and quarters around that cistern when the house was moved. I tried hunting around it but my Pro kept jumping to hot rocks, I had hot rock ignore on. The cistern is surrounded by old red bricks. Is there any way to deal with this? Ive dug hot rock signals before and come up with an empty hole and did dig a couple today. Its just like every signal that the meter moves on,is hot rocks as you go around it. I dug several nails ,of course they didnt register on the meter.
Thanks,
John

That's a fantastic find John, would love to have seen it. You don't need a very expensive camera for posts, you don't even have to get very close because you can zoom and edit on your computer.

[size=large]John, Congrats! on finding silver, and especially a "First Find" Barber 25

Good job John,
Another way to get your posts going is with a scanner. A lot of computers came with one of those all in one, scanner, fax, printers, etc
They do a decent job of getting your coins online. Congrats on the research and quarter. Maybe you could reduce your sensitivity
or just keep digging till you clear the way. A small coil might be nice too.
Keep us posted.

Wow thanks for all the kind words, needless to say I was happier than a kid with a new Radio Flyer under the Christmas tree on Christmas morning.
I was using the 5.3 coil with my ground balance locked in. After I hunted around the cistern and getting all those hot rock hits,I remembered what Monte posted about rebalancing and balanced again but the only thing, I couldnt balance around the cistern because of all the nails.
The lady bought that old house and had it moved to save it. She seen the coins laying on top of the bricks.
Yes, you are right. I had to get permission to hunt that lot from a gentleman that is 87 years old. It was great. He was happy for me to hunt the lot and had to tell me the story of when his parents came to this country in the 1800s and started a thriving local business. We talked all afternoon, I didnt get to hunt the lot but for about a hour,Ill go back . He gave me permission to hunt another old lot. This area is not but a couple blocks away from where our community started back in the late 1700s. You never know, lol. Really, talking with him was a reward in itself.
You guys are nice indeed, thanks
John
PS
Discrimination,I always keep my dial on the mark just below nails, hunt in SAT mode, watch the needle because I havent developed a good ear yet,Ill pull the trigger going into Disc mode but I use it mainly to size a target up,watching the needle and get an idea on depth.
Do you think I should be knocking out the nails?

Hi John...
Great find on the Barber...I use an All-In-One printer and scan all my coins in...the image quality is much better than a camera...
