quattro + 16.5 Excelorator coil

Just got to use mine today @ the beach. Slightly heavier than the 14.5, but I thinks I do a better job of over lapping than I did with the 14.5. Depth seems to be about the same as the 14.5. was digging dime between 8" - 14". Dug a soda can nearly 2' down near the surf. It did appear to chatter a little more on the 14.5 settings. backed the sensitivity down from 14 to 11 and seemed to quite down a little. Is there any other adjustments I should make when it falses like that? I used it LOW & SLOW, but still was plagued with falsing.

Talked to Wanda @ kellyco and she suggested trying it in the RELIC mode @ the beach..Did seem to quite down some, but still had to run sensitivity between 11-13

What were you running it in??
Do you have a coil cover?? Sand in cover?? that could do it some

beaches differ.
I'm running a 12 1/2 coil right now. Sense 14-16
Hunt wet sand down to waters edge. If I get too close to the water or a wave comes up to meet me, I'll false (Low tone==ID 10--which I hate since it could be gold!)
Other time it falses is if I'm swing'n TOO low and catch an edge on the sand.

Does it pinpoint good??

It pinpoints very well. Spent a couple hours in the lane @ low tide tonight and dug a quarter and penny in the low tide line. penny was about 12" - 14" down. It only falses really bad in a 4'-6' wide swath parallel to the ocean about two thirds of the way up to the dry sand. Once in the dry, I can raise my sensitivity up to 14-15. bugging the s*** out of me:ranting:

Hello Larrydblair, just a question: Does the extra weight of the Excelorater coil create any movement at all with the blue shaft the coil is attached to? How do you find the extra weight, and how long can you detect non stop with it? That's actually three questions! Hope you don't mind.

Good Morning Golden:please:,

The 16.5 feels about the same as the 14. I have shortened the shaft length just a little so I don't get that wobble in the lower shaft. I'm a 48 year old cop who DOESN'T"T eat doughnuts :)shrug:) and I'm still in pretty good shape. I can usually go a couple of hours without taking a break from swinging. I really like the depth I get with the 16.5, and I'm beginning to figure the chatter problem out. On that "swath of sand I've referred to, I just back my sensitivity down to 9-10 and work it very slow. After I finish it, I kick the sens back up and go about my merry way.

I look forward to you posts and opinions and regard you as somewhat of a Quattro guru. Thanks again for any advise you may have to send my way.

Good morning to you too Larry! It's probably not morning though, over there, while I'm typing this!:) Thanks for the answer. I was thinking about your initial question that you asked about any further adjustments to eliminate any falsing. i think the key is to just experiment with the different settings, and as you found after the advice from Kelly co, that it reduced the falsing somewhat, by changing to Relic Mode. I personally detect in All Metal Mode all the time, whether or not I'm on the goldfields or on the beach. Some would find the constant signals a bit overwhemling. I've just gotten used to it over time. I use All Metal, as I go for any type of relics and coins, so don't want to miss anything. I am a relic hunt at heart, but at the end of the day, any dug up treasures will do! I've only just into into snorkle detecting with the Excalibur about six months ago, and absolutely love it. Apart from enjoying the scenery under water, I found a lot of coins under piers, and a few old bottles washed out from the sand, as the tides roll in and out, and shifts the sand. Lots of fun! So you don't eat donuts! That's funny, in most flicks I've watched, they do eats donuts! And usually drop something onto their ties! Just kidding around here!

I didn't know they had a 16.5. Is this an excellerator coil form Kellyco? I thought they only had a 14 and an 18, but the 16" sounds really exciting. Guess your getting some really deep finds with it. I'm surprised you have to back the sens down in the wet sand. I can usually run on auto sens anywhere I go, but, I guess if you back it down it's much more stable in the wet sand, and maybe because it's a bigger coil, you have to do that. Marc. P.S. I'm only using the standard 10.5 inch coil.

yeah, It's pretty new. Touted to get the depth on the 20", but with the weight of the 14". I'm getting really good depth, down to 2 ft. up in the dry sand and nearly the 14" - 18" down in the surf. I also hunt in all metal mod, have quite the bottle cap and pull tab collection. larrydblair (The Palm Bay Pirate)

Now that took a little time to get used to, but I can now find my targets with one or two scoops:clapping:
