Quattro coil is NOT waterproof

Hello all,

I found I was wrong believing Quattro 10,5" coil is submersible - I've always used it at the beach without concern.
According to Minelab, as it's not epoxy filled, it's not waterproof.
What seemed to be an intermitent contact in the cable was, actually, corrosion in a thin copper wire inside the coil enclosure (I opened it). Looks like the cable/coil connection allows some moisture to get inside, and this probably will increase with aging (mine was 40months).
Just before failure, a degraded performance can be noticed (lower detection depth, mainly).
I attached a picture of the coil 'autopsy'.

Differently from my previous and foregone conclusion, the corrosion spots were not guilty of the coil failure: those thin wires have just a shielding role.

The failure point was where the multifilament black RX wire meets the rigid coil one. I dug in the coil to reach that point. My surprise was the lack of welding at the connection (!?). Basically, the black wire 'pulled off' the connection, loosening the contact.

After some work, I have the coil fixed and good to go. I also filled the air space with polyurethane foam - now, it is waterproof!

I my Quatto user manual it said the 10.5 and 8 are epoxy filled,so they can be submersed in water,but care must be taken to ensure the control box remains dry.
