Hope this isnt the wrong section as im new to MD'ing just started about a month or so ago and am hooked. Just wanting to know the pro's and con's from people who might have some experience with both. Most of my use will be for civil war relics and coin shooting. What is better in wooded areas,and trashy areas? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. I have a Bandido II Umax that is real nice and i like it. Just wanting to go for a bit more now. Way i see it make one good investment instead of several small investments would be cheaper in the long run. Sorry to ramble on and on,but the main use for the Qauttro or 2500 would be for deeper hunting in wooded areas. The Bandido seems to do real good in trashy areas although i am in the market for a Troy SHadow X-2 for the trashy areas. Thanks any help would be greatly appreciated. Jerry Kellum

Quattro or Garrett's GTI 2500?

Hello Jerry, I'm not familiar with the detectors you use, so I can't comment on them, but I'm sure thry're great to use! As for the Sovereign and Quattro, a friend of mine uses the Sovereign, and has found many relics and coins. I use the Quattro on the goldfields quite extensively, and found it to be a superb detector, which handles iron and trash conditions very well. I've found many relics and coins to 14 inches deep, sometimes a little more, but the ground here is probably different to yours there. It's very compact, rocky, and almost like concrete in places, or it can be wet, soft dirt, but coins seem to deteriorate more quickly in this type of ground. Overall, I would say from what I've heard, and other detectorists have told me, that the Quattro will go a little deeper than the Sovereign. It seems to be the case also at the beach. But then, I don't own a Sovereign, my friends do.

Thank you for replying Angela. How do you think the Quattro will stand up relic hunting? I just purchased a QUattro gonna use it this weekend? Not only Angela,but does anyone else use the Quattro for Relic Hunting? Any light on the machine for that case would be greatly appreciated. THanks, Jerry

the Quattro stands up to relic hunting fantastically. My finds are proof of this. I've only just moved out of a gold mining town, with around 17 other ghost towns within a 50 km radius north, and detected almost every day, because it was on my doorstep. If you have a look in the Aussie Treasure Hunters website, go into the albums link. Have a brouze in my album under 'Angela' quite a few photos of my finds. All found with the quattro. All were found wroking in All Metal Mode, with sensitivity from about 10 to 16. Some targets I dug down to 14 inches or more, in hard compact ground. Most of the ground is iron infested. And quite a few coins came out of holes with nails in them. I've also got quite a collection of axe heads and other old rusty tools. But I thought I'd post a few pics here of some other finds. Enjoy!
