Question about classifieds here

Dirt Poor

New member
I have advertised for items here in the classifieds forum, and always seem to get responses, but many of the responders don't have many posts, which makes me leary. I know that this is probably not the correct place to post this, but y'all seem to be a great bunch here. I have bought several nice machines over the years here(from well known users), but am I being too cautious? I don't want to buy anything from somebody unless they have some "history" on this site. Thanks

Although the vast majority of members are OK, being cautious is a good policy. Don't be afraid to ask for references and experiences on the feedback forum too.

Yeah, that's some good info.

I almost bought a used detector from another sight, but I got cold feet when I found out that the seller was not PayPal "verified" after they said they were.

I told the seller that the only way I'm going to send them any money in light of them not being "verified", is after I receive the product. PERIOD

It's easy to check if they're "verified" or not.

When you advertise that you are looking FOR an item, you initially get alot of responses, but it seems that most of them only have a few posts under their belt. They just may be legit, but I'd rather buy from somebody that has at least 100 or so posts on the forums(if you have never heard of them before).

In addition to checking the feedback here on an individual, you can check their past posts.----That tells a WHOLE LOT about the person you are contemplating dealing with.----Also, if a person isn't willing to give you their phone #---that is a BIG red flag.----It's nice to chat with a buyer or seller over the phone (especially on large purchases).-------As Larry mentioned--caution is a good policy.-----By and large, the vast majority here on the forum are good, honest people---BUT--we do have a "rip off artist" slip in on us once in awhile.----------Del

I agree, D&P. I have purchased a couple machines on this very site, but I did so only when I had complete confidence that the seller was good. And they were! But you can just "sense" the wolves out there wanting your money, so you need to be cautious and kinda "get to know" the other party. But I guess it's that way with other merchandise sources, too. Thanks!
