ihave had my exp.xs almost 2 years this december i shoot alot of local park which are all around the 100 yr old mark. problem is being they are typical trashy areas you cant run the sens high i always get loads of newer coins but they are always in the 2-4 inch depth area never nothing deep any suggestions to my problem or is this normal using the X-8 stealth coil and the lower sesns setting??? on a good day i might get the sens up to 20 max thanks Robert in wisc i see alot of guys getting great finds with this coil and deep to boot

Robert,I use the stealth 8 on my xs in the salt water beach and get great depth with it.I can run my sens at 26 to 30 and still run smooth and deep.It seems to me the smaller the coil the higher you can run your sens...Maybe your gain is to high, mine is at 6.If thats not the problem Im sure someone on this forum will set you in the right direction. You should be doing better than that.Good luck.Ralph

I use the X8 quite a bit, have no problem getting coins at the 8 inch or deeper level.. why do you have to use low sens because of trash? why dont you build yourself a coin pattern and crank it up? you will have to go real slow to pick off the stuff in the trash though if your pattern to tight

Robert,
Are you from Wisconsin?
I've been using the 8" alot lately, more than the minelab 10.5. It's just SO much easier in trash. I think the larger coils only get better depth in perfect/near perfect conditions. I found many times I can run the 8" at a higher sensitivity than the 10.5" and probably get better depth. Not positive yet, but think that the 8" is a little better at getting a good audio signal in trash than the bigger coils and I'm positive the meter is more accurate with less stuff under the coil. The biggest downside I see is that it takes so much longer to cover ground with the small coil. Actually considering the 5". Anybody have experience with one of these?

except when it's trashy, then the 5 is my choice. Both get great depth and are "light". You can't compare depth at the beach to inland. My deepest "inland" coin, nickle size and under, was a shield nickle, right at the 9" mark. I was using the ML 8" at 15 manual sens. at that time. I've purchased a SR 8" since and abandoned the ML only because of it's heavy weight. I can't actually say if running high sensitivity will pick off deep smaller coins than using lower sens., but I feel using too much sens. will cost a hunter more coins than what it will gain. I'd love to hear from the more successfull hunters on this, especially on factual depths on small coins, HH

used it for the last 3 hunts, went to area's where even with the x-8 was driving me crazy! the x-5 was able to go through the trash with easy. You are correct, in that it covers less ground but i was able to increase the sens also. i am glad i got one, and believe there is a place for it. ken
