Question about long range locators?

To be honest I don't believe it.....well let's say I would have to see some hard proof to convince me. No, I not from Missouri, but you would have to show me in a very scientific way. That being said, I recall something I witnessed several years ago at work. We hired a backhoe operator to lay a sewer line and we knew he would be crossing a 4in high pressure gas line. We were all standing around scratching our heads wondering where it was. He walks up and says he could find.
He asked for someone to bring him two bronze welding rods. He bent the ends down about 6in and holding them out straight started walking. After a few feet the rods crossed. He said "there is the line". He was right. Yes I saw him do it but still don't know if it worked or he was very lucky.
