Question about rechargeable batteries

cadman

New member
I have a question about them. I got a new detector a few day ago and it takes 8 AA to power the thing. In the manual it calls for 1600 mAh or 1800 mAh. My question is can I use one that are 2000, 2200, 2500 mAh. If I did would it hurt the detector (Quattro minelab).

Thanks

Search this forum as well as the Explorer one (they use the same battery setup) Others have gone into detail about the pros and cons
and the problems with the 2500 recharables-they say they are a bit longer and may damage the battery holder. Other than that I don't think they will hurt it is still the same voltage, just more lasting power.

As was mentioned that some are just a hair longer and when you put 4 in a row makes it quite a bit longer and you will have a tough time putting them in the battery pack, or even break the pack. Now as far as the the 1600 or 1800 verses the higher ones you will see many using these with no problem as you will get more time out of them. Minelab factory rechargeable packs are 1600 and the 1800 as that is what they use, but you can use bigger if the batteries themselves are not longer than normal.

I use the energizer 2500's in my Quattro and MXT and they work fine with no problems. Hope this helps. Good luck with the Quattro. It is a fine machine.
