Question about the Excal's tones & reaction to highly mineralised ground:shrug:

I'm thinking of going under some bridges & local diveing rocks in the foothills of Calif. & Lake Tahoe VIA Hookah & am thinking Excal...Can anybody tell me how the unit might respond in hot rock heaven??? Black sand??? I'm also wondering about the tone I.D. Is it similar to the Exp. & can you get a pretty good Idea of the target before digging...Say between lead, iron, aluminum, rings, silver & gold??? I'm painfully aware that to i.d. 100% I need to dig...but does it give you a PRETTY GOOD idea of what the target MIGHT be???

Heh, heh...you again??? We both get around, I see. :)

The Excal sounds are nothing like the Explorer. In my opinion, for the beach, they are way better. The lower the tone, the higher the heart rate.

Here's a link to a post I made with a link in it to download some actual sounds that I recorded from some of the many pieces of jewelry (and some other stuff) that I've found with mine. It's a zipfile and the individual sounds are appropriately named. Turn the sound all the way up to hear them well...I was using a little microphone in one of the ear cups to record it with Windows Sound Recorder. The quality is good but the volume is lower than optimal.

It would take a little getting used to but they are pleasant to listen to...I haven't had time yet to read the other posts but I'm wondering how well the Excal would handle the hot rocks...There is a local detector club meeting next thursday & I'm gonna try to make it...I know there are a few who hunt around Tahoe & the Mountains & some places up there are just murder on some units....Thanks again Mike...HH...TT
