Question about the Goldscan 5

Perhaps this question is premature as the Goldscan 5 isn't in the hands of the public yet.
A lot of hardened steel items with minor amounts of alloys will produce a high tone with the Goldscan 5. Well how about a iron-nickel meteorite with more than 5% nickel? Will this produce a high tone? Size factor?
Just wondering
George

Hi George,
I have never had the opportunity to test an iron nickel meteorite on a PI. If you could send me a sample, (which I will return), and I can run some tests.
Eric.

To answer some of your question in general, PI's will detect meteorites, which are usually small, but with a weaker signal, because to a large degree they are particle compostion, the iron types tend to be more solid mass. A VLF will give a stronger signal and are better for hunting them.
Most of the people out West who find them are nugget hunting, in general are very PI oriented, usually Minelabs. Erics detectors should have no problem detecting them and possibly better than some PI's. HH....Don

Thanks for your response Don.
The area I plan on looking for the space rocks is moderately mineralized, loaded with hot rocks with enough old trash iron to drive a average PI user nuts. Items that would produce a high tone(initial edge response) in my area would be minor so you can see my interest in this subject.
As the Goldscan 5 is the next step in technoogy for PIs and ID, a lot of folks including myself are just itching to try one. I just need a good excuse to buy another detector.
Happy Trails
George
