Question for any experimented TH,

I have noticed that most detectors do discriminate but just 2 to 3 inches in the ground. Is this normal or am I wrong. I recently went w/ my ace 250 to an old hacienda and I got several good finds but I noticed that I was picking up tin bottle screwcaps and when they were on plain sight my detector did not sound at all,as it sholud, since I was discriminating iron. Please help? Thank you.

I have been noticing the same thing the past few days. Even though I discriminate out the iron they register as quarters most of the time. I just finished posting the same remarks so check out what responses I get as well.

Most of to days quarters have ferrous metals as part of there composition.
That also applies to the twist bottle caps as per there composition.
Unless the quarters are the old silver ones they will ID similar to bottle caps.
Almost have to dig everything unless you can tell the difference in the tones which could be very hard to differentiate.

Screwcaps are the bane of all beeper swingers as they can't be discriminated out and have the same conductivity as most coins. Something you'll have to live with.

Bill

They were prabably masked by a dominate piece of metal that is discriminated out, so I would be worried about it.

Another thing that I can think of is that the screwcaps that were in the ground had developed a halo, so they registered. Whereas the ones in plain sight would not register because they were discriminated out as they should, of course.:biggrin:Happy Hunting!:)
