Question for Eric

On Minelab and Fisher detectors I have noticed that their circuit boards are placed inside a foil wrapped box that I believe is connected to the ground side of the board. Is this to eliminate some outside interference? Would this same type of setup be of any benefit to the operation of the Goldquest SS? Thanks, Mark

Hi Mark,
This would lessen outside electromagnetic interference. However, most noise is picked up on the coil and efficient shielding of this gives the greatest benefit. The aluminium battery plate on the GQ SS is grounded and acts as a shield, although one one side only.
The Aquasearch box is lined with copper foil but this is to prevent capacitance effects when the box is dipping in and out of the water. Of course, it acts as an electromagnetic shield as well.
Eric.
