question for Eric

What is autotune, what does it do.can it be used for ground balance.
Also a fue months back.I lowered time delay on my CS to detect small gold nugets.Best I could get was 1" on .9gram.
question if I touched coil with my hand it would detect it.Does this mean, not enough shield in coil or Damping resistor needs to be lowered. What can I do to counter this.
Threshold is working on my CS now.Thanks.
Frank

Hi Frank,
To answer the last part first. It's hardly worth the effort to try and improve the CS6 beyond what it was designed to do. You will likely run into all sorts of instability, drift, noise, hand capacity etc, as neither the coil or electronics were intended to run faster. Bit like overclocking a computer, sometimes it can be done, but there are risks that things may become unstable or, worse, fry.
Auto-tune (not strictly the right term)is a system for keeping the threshold at a set level even if the background signal from a wet beach or mineralised ground should change. It also compensates for any drift in the detectors electronics. It is not the same as true ground balance which cancels the ground signal irrespective of coil height.
Eric.

Hi Eric,
Thanks for reply.I am teaching myself,I dont mind if this detector gets unstable.if I make it unstable, I can all ways put it back and move on.Thats how I learn, trial and error. Your Fourm is a good place to learn.
Question on coils,if you touch(new, used or expermental) coil with your hand and detector gives a target sound.Does that mean not enough shilding in coil, damping resistor, time delay to low, ets.
