I am working on a PI project.useing 4017 as clock,if I OR-pin 2,3, 4,7,do you see any problems. How many pins can be OR safely.

Hi Olie,
You can safely OR as many pins as you want, but you are then restricting the number of outputs available for sampling and delays. There are a couple of ways to make the system more flexible. One is to cascade a couple of 4017's which then doubles the number of outputs. Or you can AND the other outputs with the clock generator. This effectively halves the width so that, for example, a 30uS 4017 pulse becomes a 15uS one. This enables you to have a wide (90uS)TX pulse with three 4017 outputs and still have delay and sample pulses at 15uS. Whatever you end up with, depends on the clock frequency of course.
