Hi all
I have recenty bought a new Gold Quest and would like to know how other people find there performance. I have tried air testing and have found the results a bit disappointing. I have done the test in my front room whether that would interfere with the performance I don't know.
What sort of depth would I expect on a large male wedding band. The beaches I detect on have little to no minerisation.

If your using coins for testing, that’s really not the way to go. It takes a re-adjusting of the reject control to get coins to hit better. It responds well to coins regardless of the setting, but it’s far more happy sniffing for gold jewelry.
With your wedding band, mine is most certainly different. Guessing I would say 15", 18".
Let’s try this. Set SAT at mid point. Set reject at minimum. Set volume at maximum. Last step, most important. Set threshold as to just hear the audio, no louder.
I’m assuming you have fresh alkaline cells installed.
I believe your from the UK, and you received the unit from Eric. Every unit that leaves Eric’s shop is set up by him personally. It was running at peak when it left. Perhaps something went out of kilter in travel, and if it doesn’t perform as you feel after you try my suggested settings contact Eric.

gqss v2 air testing and beach testing are very differnt in my living room a mans ring will get about 10 inches. on the beach any were from 12 to 15 inches the bigger the ring the deeper here is a silver ring i dug it broke my scoop trying to get it estimated in the water about 20 inches one oz. the salt water i think enhances the signal why dont know but when im in the water wet sand this detector outperforms itself im amazed all the time on the jewelery it finds from small post earrings to massive rings hh larry ca just another beach detector guy

I have been using the Goldquest almost exclusively here on the beach here in southern California and for me it has been great. I recently found a beautiful 14kt gold bangle bracelet on the beach at around afoot deep, it gave off a loud bam that sounded perfect. For me its the best!

<span style="background-color:#ffff00;">Always do test outdoors</span>, preferably on the beach. There are so many things in your house, and even neighbouring houses, that can cause interefence to a sensitive detector. Mains house wiring, TV's, computers - all these are prodigious sources of interference. Also you should be at least 10ft away from metal structural items like garage doors, window frames, reinforced concrete etc.

I refuse to answer questions relating to depth... <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol"> <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol"> <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol"> ......ah what the hell...I will dig a ring you desribed (medium to largish 18kt wedding band) at 16".
This is on my local beach....nice whitish sand.
1. REJECT at 10uS
2. SAT at SLOW to 9 o'clock
3. THRESHOLD just "alive"
4. Medium pace swings just brushing the sand

Thanks for all the prompt replies.
I have been taking my other detector out the last few trips because my cofidence had been dented in the GQ. Your answers have given me the confidence to have another go, if I am honest the GQ is much lighter, beter balanced and more of a pleasure to use on longer sesions.
