Question for Prep - Best way to Noise Cancel

I read a post by Prep on the ETrac forum here http://www.findmall.com/read.php?63,1552345,1553068#msg-1553068, and, if I understood it correctly, noise canceling with the coil on the ground produced noticeably better results than when noise canceling with the coil in the air as recommended by Minelab in the Safari manual?

Am I understanding this correctly?

I always place the coil on the ground until noise cancel has completed. In his book, Andy Sabisch says, "Place the coil on the ground (yes, on the ground . . . various Minelab FBS-based detector manuals differ in how this shuold be done ranging from on the ground to 18" above it but remember, you are planning to search with the coul as close to the ground as possible so this is where your coul should be when you perform a Noise Cancel)."

Yep, I agree....on the ground!

I hunted doing what the Safari manual said the first 4 months before I started putting it on the ground or at the height that I was normally sweeping at.I went back and hunted the same spots that I hunted the first 4 months over again and found a lot of coins I missed in the 7 to 9 inch range I personal think it makes a big difference and showed better results in my test buckets.I hunt as tight to the ground as I can,go out right after the place you are hunting just got mowed. You will here a weird pop at extreme deep coins you can reproduce this in air tests learn that broken pop most times that is very deep silver.

Thanks for the comments. It seems logical that the coil should be down where you're swinging when noise canceling. I am a bit surprised that the optimum method to noise cancel wouldn't be included in the Minelab manual. From now on I'll place the coil on the ground before noise canceling.
