Question from a wanna be newbie! :heh:

Jeff in Pa

Well-known member
I currently swing the Etrac but I am seriously considering a Deus. I love the E but want to try the Deus. My question, is it possible to tell that its a Wheat and not a Memorial penny? This is the one thing that I love about the E and was curious if the Deus can do it.

Thanks for any help,

Jeff

Jeff,

YOu might get some responses that say you have the refinement to do that but I tend to say no you can't . . . remember the lineage of the Deus stems from areas where good targets are not as defined as they are here in the US and the ability to seperate targets from ferrous trash, recover quickly, eliminate weight and provide updates across the Internet were just some of the factors that set the Deus apart from the crowd.

It is a great coin hunter especially in trashy sites whiere other detectors start to stumble but if you are looking for a detector with more accurate TID than the E-Trac, I think the Minelab gets the edge in that camp. YOu know it's good and can use depth to determine if it is worth digging but seperating Wheats from Memorials . . . . not likely - unless you mean Zinc pennies

Andy

I didn't know you could with any detector. Unless you mean zinc memorials like Andy said.
Then the answer is yes.

Thanks Andy, I watched the video you have up that shows coin TID and thought that maybe you could not. Thanks for your quick response. I personally never dig the Memorials or zincs and will only dig the Wheats when it comes to the pennies from the 1900's.

Ism,

Yes you can tell the three apart with the E,.

Well no matter, I still would love to give one a try for at least 6 months or so. The Deus looks to be a killer machine in the trash!!

Jeff

Hi Jeff!
Man I wish that was possible but no. I haven't seen ANY detector that can do that. To many things can go into that. Year of the coin, angle, dampness of ground, etc etc etc.,,

Holler if you have more questions. Love to help!

If you don't dig those targets your missing out on lots of great potential targets! Big gold rings come in at zinc perry range!

Yep...missing out for sure. My good buddy just dug a "zinc penny" $5 gold coin...down about 8" deep (Explorer SE).

Regards, Joe (California)

Hi Bart,

Not the zincs, I am talking copper memorials. Yes I can almost always tell if its a Wheat or a copper memorial. I am using the 13" Ultimate on my E.

Here is my 2 cents, I use my Minelabs exclusively for coin shooting and cherry picking due to the fact they are spot on with tid and tone, but if I am hunting a place where im removing every non ferrous target from the ground ill pull out the Deus after I finish getting all I can with the Ctx and E trac and usually there are a few targets left but most of the time those targets are not high conductors ..mostly small items and targets between foil and zinc range...if you like the ability to discriminate digging unwanted targets you already have the second best detector for that application and an upgrade in that department would be the Ctx, I personally cant use the Deus effectively in a trashy park looking for old coins but im sure there are guys that will kick butt in a park with it after using it for an an extended amount of time that I just dont have with the extreme local competition on parks, I just wish they could change the audio back to 2.0 leaving all the other upgrades in 3.2 in place...just my opinion.. gl&hh

I'm near the northern border of PA/NY (kirkwood, binghamton) and would be happy to spend some time with you trying my Deus as well as trying out the E-Trac.

Thanks for the offers guys, I am in Northumberland county. I am sure Andy has been in Norry many times. I remember many years ago I bought a Sovereign Elite from him.

I would love to find someone who wanted to trade detectors for a while. The Deus has my interest but I don't want to try one, I wanna take the time to get to know it like I know my E.

Thanks

Jeff

If you are keeping the E Trac, the Dues is a fantastic companion. What the E Trac does in target ID, the Deus does in target separation. Depends on field conditions.

I keep a wheat cent on my pocket that I flip whenever I get a penny signal: heads it's a memorial, tails it's wheat. :pinnochio:

Just kidding! I would not leave a memorial in the ground so I dig it anyway!

HEY JEFF IN PA
I HAVE A DEUS, WHEN I GOT IT I WAS LOST
COMMING FROM A AT-PRO
THE DEUS WILL TAKE TIME TO LEARN
I PUT MINE UP FOR SALE ON CRAIGS LIST
REPROGRAMED IT AN GOT ANDYS BOOK ON THE DEUS
STOPPED TRYING TO USE IT LIKE ALL THE DETCTORS
I HAVE HAD IN THE PAST
LISTEN TO THE DEUS, IT HAS ITS OWN LANGUAGE
I HAVE FOUND MORE GOLD WITH IT THAN WITH ALL
MY DETECTORS TOGETHER
P/S IT IS NOT FOR SALE

That's why I have a Deus coming. Lots of places coming up with iron and trash everywhere, with copper, silver and possible gold in between. Depth will not be an issue, nor correct ID, but separation will. It will be dig all but iron hunting, but there will be lots of nails and rusty tid bits.
