Question Mr. Bill

Mr. Bill,
I have decided on a PI detector for the saltwater beaches here in Florida and want one thats in a price range I can afford. The Aquastar at $2000 is out of my league so I am checking into a couple detectors ranged from $500 to $750
You said that you do modifications for a fee to the Whites Surfmaster PI.
On a scale of 1 to 10 rate the detector with before and after modifications
Thanks,
John(Fla)

John,
I'm in the same boat as you (WRT money) so I bought a SandShark, just got it yesterday. I will be in FL with it soon.
One thing it has is a "frequency adjust" which I think only adjusts the audio response frequency, NOT the pulse rate. Not too useful IMO so I might rewire it to adjust the pulse rate. Don't have to add another pot that way.

Hi Carl,
This whole detecting thing is causing headaches <IMG SRC="/forums/images/smile.gif" BORDER=0 ALT=":)">
Trying to decide which one to buy.....
Let me know how the sand shark works for you...
I got 3 weeks to look and decide...

John,
I know it can be a bit intimidating searching for a detector to purchase. For the most part they all would work well at what they were designed to do.
Have you looked at the Beachscan MK2 I have listed on my page ? (www.surfscanner.com) This is a very sensitive (15uS)PI detector in the price range you mentioned.
The modifications to the Surfmaster PI puts it into the Beachscan range, and into the sensitivity range of the CS7, and the Barracuda. This is not to say it

Mr. Bill
I have a work schedule that is a bit on the odd side.
I will send you an e-mail later this week with my phone number.
My two days a week off work are Fridays and Saturdays and I can give you the best time to call when I send you the e-mail
Thanks and look forward to talking to you,
John(Fla)

I own a Whites' Surfmaster PI and I think it's
a terrific beach machine. Out of the box it
will air test 10" on a nickel, more in wet
salt sand. It's not very sensitive to very
thin gold chains, but few PI detectors are.
The Beachscan detector costs $575 and it's
not waterproof nor does it include headphones.
A Surfmaster PI can be had for around $500.
For price vs. performance it's hard to beat!
