Question on Gold Chains

While in the water day before yesterday there were three young boys playing/wrestling in the water. One approached me and told me he lost his gold chain. I asked if there was a medallion on it and the reply was no. I searched the area for over an hour with no results from my Excalibur 1000. I did not expect to hit the chain and if I went back to the motorhome to get my CZ20 I knew it would not hit it either...just experience talking here... The ocean must be filled with small gold chains left undetected. The young boy was really sick and did not want to report home to his mothers questions....
I have noticed that the new gold detector and now just below Mr. Foster has made comment on
changing the freq. or the Aquastar coil winding to be, I believe, more effective on small gold, the units both detect natural gold found in the earth that is very small in size.....will the Aquastar hit/detect the mixed gold found in small gold chains with no medallions???

Hi Frank,
Whatever performance you give a detector on small gold, there will always be items that are undetectable, particularly chains. If the links are small enough and the gold alloy is poorly conductive then the chain will be invisible. As I stated, the sensitivity has to be limited on a beach or shallow water PI, otherwise the signals will be swamped by the background response from the beach and water.
The changes I made in the Aquastar winding was for production purposes i.e. more uniformity between coils without the need to tweak. The performance has not changed.
Eric.
