Question on recharging the XP Deus

Just a curious/casual lurker here, not an XP Deus owner. I'm curious about recharging the XP Deus and any situations that have come up where you ran out of juice. From what I've been able to gather, each of the three components, the coil, remote, and headphones all require their own individual charging. That to me seems like you have 3 times the chance of running out of juice at some point during your hunt?

Looking at the available accessories, it does not appear as though there are quick exchange re-chargeable batteries for any of the components, is that correct? I see there is a quick charger out there, but you get X amount of battery life for every Y amount of time you have the charger plugged into your XP.

Are all of the recharging sections of the three units hardwired into it?

Has anyone experienced a reduction in charge capacity/duration? If the internal battery fails, does the whole unit have to be replaced?

I see there is a quick charger out there, but you get X amount of battery life for every Y amount of time you have the charger plugged into your XP.Well every detector runs out of juice...so whats important is how and how long to recharge....The dues can be recharged via a USB cable that comes with the machine that does all three components at once, or one at a time if needed. It can be either plugged into the 110vac connector that comes with the unit, or to a (readily avail. for a few bucks) 12v car adapter that takes usb.. As well there are options from Deus for a solar charger and a small emergency charger that uses an AA battery. An hour or two of charge will give 2x or better time with the detector (my experience)

Are all of the recharging sections of the three units hardwired into it?The batteries in the headset and controller are easily replaceable by the user if they need replaced, and the user can also replace the battery in the coil as well, but unless you are pretty handy thats not the recommended practice, but instructions abound for doing it and it looks to me like something I would do if necessary. The Li-Ion batteries should handle years of detecting without problems. I don't see it as an issue for myself

If the internal battery fails, does the whole unit have to be replaced?I haven't had mine long enuf to tell, not sure anyone has as this unit is only a couple years old, but what I can tell you is that as the battery drains there appears to be no loss of performance right up until the batteries are two low to run things. Like I stated above all the batteries are replaceable

My take on all this is don't worry about the batteries, this detector is a rock star

My experience: No loss of battery strength after 2-1/2 years of use.. In the UK users are approaching their 4th yaer and I hear nothing about battery replacements yet.

The coils draw more power than the control unit and backphones and subsequently need to be recharged more often. Most of my hunts are under 3 hours and I can usually get 4 or 5 hunts in before coil charging. The control unit and backphones ...last about twice as much.

Don't let any battery concerns stop you from trying this detector...it's a BEAUTY!

Since Lithium batteries as used in the DEUS are not having issues like memory effect, you can charge them after each tour, if you want. 12 to 17 hours - depending from the settings, are no problem with a fully charged DEUS.(More a problem for the detectorist to swing that long.)
Also with the time often comes a second coil, so if one is empty, you swap them and can continue.
With USB based emergency chargers (including solar) you can feed your DEUS even in the field during a short break - or you charge it in the car while driving.
If it comes to dead or dying batteries - not yet seen any visible sign of it. But sure, if will happen sooner or later. In this case you can send the unit to the vendor to replace the battery for a fee - or on Youtube (I think) you find also a video how to do it yourself, if you don't have 2 left hands.

Great, thanks for all the feedback folks. I started detecting with an Explorer SE, and a couple years ago purchased an eTrac. I never pulled the trigger on the 3030, mostly b/c there would not be a X-1 probe for it. I really love pin pointing with tone id. I read in the future enhancement requests, someone asked for a 1/2" coil to pin point with. Does anyone know if this is more than just talk/wishes?

Talk and wishes from what I can gather on the probe, but a great idea and could be on the front burner at XP right now for all we know......be a perfect match for the deus if they can figure out how to talk the talk between multiple coils at the same time.

I also have an Etrac (two) and from what I could tell the upgrade to the ctx didn't buy enuf performance incr. to justify the additional cost...for me.......now the deus on the other hand offered a whole new range of possibilities so I jumped on board. Ultra light weight, simple configuration (similar to the Etrac in complexity), multi-frequencies..and ...all wireless .....wow who wouldn't be enticed.....now for the bad news....I am seriously thinking of selling both my Etracs, keeping the Deus and my MXT PRO for a backup....30 days ago, those words would have been heresy.....thats where I am pointed at least, unless something goes drastically wrong while I am getting up to speed with the Deus, which after a month of running it, I don't see coming.....Its different, but in a good way......

One thing I love about the Etrac is its ability to hone in on good targets around the junk, the things that kill it for me is the weight and how it just goes "brain lock" when you put it in a field of old nails or other ferrous junk. I have run in TTF, I have bought a 5" coil etc. but nothing quite like the ultra fast recovery of the Deus...and Its so light I can swing it all day.

No issues with the batteries. I laugh when some of my hunting pals have to change out batteries every 10 or so hours of hunting. that is a lot in batteries during peak hunting season.

Did a 2 week hunt in Colchester, England in October with my Deus. Hardcore, non-stop detecting from about 7:30am to 6:00 each day with a 30 minute break for lunch. I noticed around 2:00pm each day the bar indicator for the coil was down about half but performance still seemed strong. I had the "emergency" AA charger with me but never used it. Each evening I would recharge the coil, headphones, and remote, which usually took just over an hour.

All three can be charged at the same time without any smoke or fire. There is a car charger available as well as a quick charger it is nice because it can be charged multiple ways.

When the Deus was first released I held back because in my mind I had convinced myself that rechargeable items were not worth a look in. I had a garage full of drills, saws , hedge cutters and strimmers all with failed rechargeable batteries, so the thought a rechargeable detector was out of the question.
I waited a year and still no negative feedback, so I decided to buy and with no regrets, my friend uses my original Deus, he has just had the coil battery replaced after all this time, the battery diddnt fail, the operating life was shortened.

Over time Deus coils have evolved, they have even better batteries, along with saving weight, the newer coils are only 300gms, the original coil was nearly 400gms.
I'm experimenting with a solar charging panel at the moment, I just need some sun.
