Question on the Excal..also posted in the GT Excal forum

I will soon be ordering a detector and pretty much had it down to the GT, but the sea is calling. After reading Don's post I think he makes a valid point for going with the Excal. Heres the question I have heard that the excal is not made very well, knobs falling off, connections coming loose etc... I also heard that you need to add various items to the stock model to make it perform well although the only one I have heard of so far is a straight shaft. Also any insight into land performance as I will be doing some of that as well. Thought I would post it here as well as I'm sure some of you know this machine inside and out.

We are a 2 Excal family........they are excellent machines, well built and rugged. You have to realize that it is a machine and not everyone treats their machines the same, some people neglect them and toss them aside without washing them or properly storing them. Thats where the complaints come in. If you care for your machine, READ the manual then you will not be sorry you bought it.

Well, if the water truely is calling Lawman, then the Excal should be tops for your selection. It discriminates iron better than any other, so you are able to cover much greater area. It is hot on gold, of all sizes. It works best for me on the Lightening Rod straight shaft. It works well on dry land too, but is heavy, stem mounted. The weight does not bother me in the water though and am able to hunt 6-8 hours, without fatigue. The unit has it's various imperfections, as do all detectors in some capacity, but I assure you, that if you are in a target rich environment and you take care of the equipment, you WILL be rewarded. PM me if you have any further questions, I would be happy to help you. Tenacious perseverence pays! GH

Well after pricing everything gonna have to wait on the excal have to keep feeding my kids:surrender:GT should do ok on the beach just have to stay out of the water for now.

Or you could water proof a SOV GT, like Max does. Seems to work well for him. Ask him for the receipe on how it goes together or you could research his previous posts, if you like. I think he uses a Pelican box. GH
