Question on the Pro-Pointer.....

Digger

I really like my Garrett Pro-Pointer. However, I have noticed when I press down against the tip, it signals. I didn't notice this when I first got it. But the past few times I've been detecting, after digging a hole and "probing around" the edges, it signals when I press hard. The first couple times I removed more dirt from that area, thinking it was a coin. But each time it turns out to be a false signal, caused by pressing the tip down into the dirt. I can actually press down on the tip with my finger and it signals. Has anyone else noticed this? Or do I need to have this one serviced? Thanks in advance. HH Randy

Have the same thing happen with mine.
Just take it in consideration when I use it.

I just sent mine back this past sat to garretts for replacement.. days before it finally died, it would beep holding it in the air, or probing a hole after finding the target, then rechecking it would continue to beep just as there were more targets ( but there were no more )..... How old is yours ?? Mine was just 3 1/2 months old... I still think its a great pinpointer tho.. Maybe a bad batch got out and I got one of them..

Mine does it too. Seems to get worse when the battery is getting low. It isn't too bad with mine as long as I don't probe hard with it. I was thinking of sending mine in for a check up once the ground freezes.

Don't press on the tip as it contains a lot of fine wires and if you damage them your PP will crap out for sure.

I got mine new on the 21st of August. Funny thing is that I'm not doing anything with it now that I wasn't doing 2 months ago. I don't poke around in the solid ground. I push it around in the loose dirt of the opened hole. And I'll use the scraper blade to shave off the edges. This past weekend I was hunting a very wet field and it liked to drove me nuts chasing phantom targets. Can't figure out why it just started??? I'll email Garrett and see what they have to say. Thanks for all the responses. HH Randy

we get our pro pointers soon so will take the advise and not press on the end,, have watched some youtube videos on pro pointers snd some guys use them like a digger, they are after all a small detector not a digger

I had the same pob with mine. Called garrett sent it back and the new
one was here before the old one got to Tx

great service for sure

I had the same problem before it 'wigged out' and started going off on mineralized AIR..LOL! Be prepared that you may have to do without it for awhile. On the other hand, also be prepared for how nice the Garrett folks are to deal with! I swapped mine out recently and was blown away by how nice they are and what great customer service they have!

I emailed Garrett and Brad told me to send it in and they'd check it out. I will probably do that since it is acting more "weird" all the time. If I am careful to not touch the tip on the ground, it doesn't act up as much. However, today I noticed it will not detect a zinc cent on edge. Even when you touch the edge of the coin to the tip of the coil. Is this "normal" for one that is working properly? HH Randy

I also like mine, It just makes recovering targets faster. But I had a bit of a problem with it today, and wanted to ask you guys if someone had a similar problem? I was recovering a target when it went dead. My first thought was the battery, so I replaced it for a new one (I always keep a new replacement at the car), After replacing it everything worked fine again, but 4 targets later I had the same problem, but this time while I placed it on the ground while recovering the coin, it turned itself on again, so I was thinking it may be a false contact problem. I checked the battery cap and it was well screwed and tight. I shake it and doesn't feels likes somethings loose or broken. So long story short, I had that problem 3 times today, I'll see how it behaves in the next days. hope it was a one day only he he. I already sent an email to Garrett's customer service explaining what happened to me. I think I might be asked to send it for service.

Garretts service on turn-around-time is excellent !! I sent mine back Priority mail, left on a Sat, got there on Monday, I called them on Wed just to inquire about it and was told a "new" one was shipped that day... Now I'm just waiting for Fed-x to do their part.. It's slated for delivery on Sat ( 7th ) but I don't think they deliver on weekends..Do they?? So I'm guessing Mon for sure..Hope this one last longer then the first one tho..Sure is strange how many other guys pinpointers are bitting the dust just as mine did all around the same time..

Regards..Mark ( ohio )
