Question on the T2's....

Joseph in Alabama

Active member
copper vs. silver... I have been pulling a lot of copper coins out of the ground with my t2 but no silver yet in places where I pulled silver/copper out with cz's in the past... is this common with the t2... will the t2 hit as hard on silver as it does copper.. hoping some of you guys that have been swinging t2's a while can voice an opinion thanks joe

Joe, another T2 user, either here or on another site recently posted about silver coins & the T2. My apologies to the poster for not remembering his name. Anyways, to boil it down it goes like this. The T2 hits especially hard on copper. However, the silver has a distinct sound to it and does not hit quite as hard as copper or have as stable a ID number as copper, or sound like it. He specifically uses 3 tones when silver hunting. Claims that works best for picking up silver coinage. He also stated silver that has been in the ground for years does not sound the same as if he freshly buries a silver, or a silver from his detector testing garden. It looks like experience in the field will be your best bet. Use this info and don't get discouraged. I found plenty of silver when I had my T2. And my soil in Idaho is fairly tough stuff for a detector to punch through.

Look for the thread Using The Process in Virginia Part 2 thread. There's a post by Justin767. He's the one that talks about finding silver with a T2SE.

Appreciate the info guys just thought I might be missing some little hints/sounds that would help id silver....went the other day hunting an old house site and got a solid hit 4 ways on high coin/ 25 cent icon no bouncing at all thought for sure I had a silver/clad but 3 inches deep and out came a lincoln was I suprises... even hunting in tone 3 I would think it would be hard to hear silver (since it doesn't seem to hit as hard as copper)especially when hunting in trashy areas with some of the aluminum junk hitting high tone/icon and numbers jumping a lot....starting to backtrack on the forum and reading what Elton and other forum members have to say about finding coins..will be glad when I find that first silver... as I know I am missing them... thanks for taking the time to reply joe

yup, what bart davis just said...ive had my T-2 for a few years now and i have had alot of success with silver coins.........if its there, the T-2 will find it (along with all the copper pennies in the ground).......best of luck to you....
