Question on the White's P.I. DF

Jim Robertson

Well-known member
I just purchased a used DF about five months old. Just put the machine together and was testing it. I was using a ladies small wedding band silver dime and a piece of gold about 4 grams. I could only pick the ring up at 3 inches the dime at 4 inches and the piece of gold up at 2 inches. That is with the unit set on the preset marks is this normal or does the machine need to go back to White's? Thanks all.

Jim,
I have a DF and a Surf PI, also used a Surf PI Pro. Never have bothered with
air testing. I use mine in fresh water and if you are testing out side, with out
electrical interference, and only getting those depths, it needs to go to the
factory. Good luck.

The above post is correct. Air testing on a PI unit only proves the detector is working. Beyond that it proves nothing. The above post was also correct when the issue of EMI was raised. I suggest you invest in some beach hunting books about PI units. Get that detector to the environment it was meant for and learn from actual hunting.
