Question pertaining to Sovereign coil to control box connector.

Is it possible to remove the pins w-wires attached from the male connector on the coil cable? Is there a tool available to remove them with?

Thanks - Bill

Bill, if its the one on the coil, not the box, It has a set screw remove it, and twist the black connector and pull it out, Then push on the wires they should come out the front end, They are soldered on the wires, or pinched on. Grubstake

Thanks, Gary. I appreciate the help. I was hoping that the pins pushed in from the back side and then locked in ....

Most of the ones I've delt with will pull orpush out the front. Did Minelab fix your GT? Gary

I sent the coil off to see the Doc., but still waiting on the verdict. Thanks for asking.

Bill the coil connector is a six pin female mic connector. After a lot of use a wire can sometimes work loose from this connector. No special tools needed just a couple of small Phillips screw drivers and 1/2 inch shrink tape.Solder the wire back in place with very fine silver solder, solder iron used 15-20w.Even though its a six pin connector only four wires are pinned 1-4.Pins 5-6 are usually only used for meter wires. These mic connectors can be found on Ebay and 1/2 shrink tape can be found at Home Depot and most hardware stores. Most people can pin all four wires in about have an hour.Hair blower will work or heat gun for the shrink tape.Hope this helps Good Luck Ron

Oops ... knew I was forgetting something .....

Ron,

Thanks for the reply.

I used the coil connector as an example. Actually, what I'm working on is the connector on an S-1 probe, that attaches to the Sov. control box. It's a large box probe, and my plan is to put it into a custom, small box. The connector that I mentioned is corroded on the outside, and I plan to replace it.

You mentioned "silver solder". Would 63/37 solder be okay to use or are you recommending the silver solder because it has (I think) better corrosion resistance?

Again, thanks. - Bill

I like soldering with the Silver it just works better. Bonds quicker and more precise. I usually use .022 Lead-Free Solder for the outside pins and on the inside more difficult pin 6 use .015 Silver-Bearing Solder.62/36/2 Good Luck Ron
