Question Regarding the Excalibur 1000

I just got bought the Excalibur 1000, and tried it out this past weekend. I have 2 questions that some of you might be able to answer.

First, When I set the Threshold level I hear a steady hum, but sometimes that hum will change to a low tone "Warble" and then back to a steady hum again. Is that Normal?

Second, When I tested the Excalibur on different targets. (Silver, Gold, Copper, I didn't hear much of a tone difference. I also have an Explorer II , and that has distinct tone differences with different metals.

first, yes it's normal just try to play more with Threshold and sens

second, yes that;s a big difference (for me at least)between them
28 frequency vs 17, you just have to get used to it.
With explr i know exactly what i dig, with exclbr i dig 10 times more
but when you go to deep water that's a different story.....

Between silver and copper there won't be much difference in tone. Clad coins and copper pennies sound about the same as silver coins. Silver rings will be in the same tone range.

A big gold wedding band will give you a higher tone than a small gold ring.

To hear a big difference in tone, set an aluminum pull tab on the ground and a clad coin about two feet away. Sweep the coil over the tab then over the coin. You'll hear the low tone of the tab and the high tone of the coin very clearly. A good size hunk of aluminum foil will give you an even lower tone than the tab.

Don't pass up those really low tones. I found a nice, 14k gold medallion that sounded like foil.

The threshold sound will change after going over a target. Sometimes it will become louder or quieter too so may need some minor adjustment throughout the hunt.

Spend some more time with your machine and you'll hear the range it has on different targets.
