If it is copper...Olive oil, or hot sauce for the stuborn stuff (keep an eye on it though as it can eat the coin)...clad...Dish Soap and water and plastic bristled brush and let coinstar do the rest...
You really do not want to do too much cleaning on collectable coins, as it degrades the value...

Same as gopher with the clad. Old copper coins (to include wheaties) get soaked in hot hydrogen peroxide. This removes the dirt, but leaves the patina.
