I have a xs does it matter if your in quickstart mode or advanced to get great depth! Im only finding stuff around 3-4" Does the advanced Deep mode work differently?? Need help Big beautiful day to hunt tommorrow!! Thanks

I will give you a few of my opinions about possible problems you are having.
Make sure that coil is ON the ground. Absolutely NO air between it and the ground. Don't let the back tip up or anything. Ditch the coil support if you have it on and lossen up the coil so it flops. This ain't your dad's old detector and it does not like air between the coil and ground like older, and different brand detectors do. (I think Garrett detectors recommend 1/2"-1" off the ground for example)
If you are in factory preset Auto sensitivity at 16, bump it to 28-32. If hunting in auto only. If you are using manual do not go above 17-20 unless you get a stable threshold during your sweep. All new users think they have to have extremely high sens in manual. You don't, trust me. Overpowering it in bad soil will mask deeper stuff. Auto sens between 28-32 is just fine. You will not miss coins! Some people do not agree. But they are wrong.
If you are coming from an explorer from a whites or other brand of fast sweep detector, slow your swing speed waaaay down. About a foot a second. The explorer can be swung faster and get depth. But newer users are overwhelmed with all the signals they get. Slow is the way. The slower the better. You aren't going to cover a football field with an explorer like someone can using an XLT. But you can go behind them and find everything they miss.
Listen to the audio. If the audio sounds great when you circle the target but the cursor on the meter (or numbers in digital) are bouncing around, dig it. Only shallower stuff will lock on solid in one spot on the screen. You will learn the bounce quick. Just right now make sure you dig anything that repeats audibly.
That should do it and as always, just my opinion. Others have different methods that work for them. But that is just 2 d@mn bad! Just kidding.

Im a old whites addict just went through rehab and bought a xs.ha ha and yes I do sweep pretty fast and their is air between my coil WoW its like youve seen me detect or something! Thanks Ric any other pointers before I head out in the morning! I also have a smaller coil shoud I be using this instead?

Honestly, the stock 10inch coil is the best thing since jiffy pop, imo. The smaller coils have their place I suppose. I have a sunray X8 I rarely use. The 10" will seperate as good as they will, IMO. Learn with the 10" first I say. If you get a couple signals close together you can snake it around and get between them with it.
Only other advise for now is try to keep a positive attitude. The explorer does very much "rock". If you start to get frustrated, take a little break. When I get frustrated it is like I am hunting with the power off. My attitude now is if I am meant to find it I will. Someone walks right behind me and finds a gold goin, it wasn't meant to be mine.
Also, keep reminding your self to slow down. I have to tell my self all the time and I have had an explorer since 99.

I do have something else I would like to say actually.
The explorer has so many settings. None deeper than the others, IMO. They are all for finding your own personal preference, imo. Some people have to be, as my buddy Ted calls them, knob jockeys. They have to change their settings constantly. It is my opinion that changing stuff all the time makes the learning curve so much longer. Almost all settings makes the explorer act and sound different. If you get used to how a deep coin sounds and acts then change settings, you go backwards a step. It won't sound or act the same. That is kinda why I am not a big fan of other coils I think. They all have their own character. I dig deep nails with my 8" that sounds just like deep iffy coins with my stock coil. I am so used to it and in tune with it.
But anyway, I say find some settings you like (Not talking about sens, cause that needs to change as the ground does) and leave them be. Once you have a handle on things and get some hours under your belt you can start playing with stuff. No setting will get you more depth. Keep that in your mind. Gain does not increase the power, it amplifies the audio. Changing your variability does not increase depth, it gives more variation between the tones, etc. etc.
Side note, I do like to hunt with my gain on 8 so I don't miss the softer hits amongst the loud shallow trash. That is just personal preference and an example. It don't get me deeper, I just notice more signals I think. But you don't get that super soft deep sweet coin hit that makes you tingle. You get a loud hit that makes you tingle when you look at the depth meter.
