questions / clarification on 705 features

Some things are not clear to me in the manual. If someone would be so kind as to clarify my thoughts and questions on the XT 705 I would greatly appreciate it.

The X-Terra 705 has an All Metal Pattern, four
preset Discrimination Patterns and Iron Mask.

In the manual it states under "preset discrimination patterns" (on page 13) there is an all-metal pattern. Is the all-metal pattern a true all-metal or is this another disc pattern with everything notched out?

If there is a true all-metal mode (and I am not comprehending this manual correctly), do you have visual ID and / or your choice of tone(s) or both?

In Prospecting Mode, the pitch of the Threshold Tone can be adjusted using the
Tones menu. This is a personal preference and will vary depending on the type of
headphones being used. The Threshold pitch ranges from 140Hz to 1010Hz.

It sounds to me (no pun intended) that the only thing one can adjust in prospect mode is the threshold tone and no adjusting of target tone(s)?

Volume is the level of sound emitted by the
detector when a target is detected. The Volume
control limits the maximum volume of
target signals.
The sound produced by a distant target starts
softly. As you get closer, the volume level
increases rapidly until it reaches the maximum
level that has been set.

This sounds just like how the Sovereign GT works. (Please correct me if I am wrong) The volume is really target control volume. If one didn't turn the volume up enough one could possibly miss out on deep(er) targets. To me this would be beneficial to have the volume set to max on the machine and have a pair of headphones with volume built in so one could adjust to a comfortable level. This way the user could hear those very deep targets.

on page 22 of the manual it talks about the four preset discrimination patterns the all metal is activated by pressing the AM button which will override your discrimination pattern .yes it is true all-metal,you have visual ID and / or your choice of tones

In the prospect mode you have one tone for everything and no TID.It will null out on small iron depinding on where you have the iron mask set,if you press the AM button while in the prospect mode you will be in a true all metal mode all targets will sound off with no nulling .

ringading,

Thanks for the explanation. I state page 13 as that is the page number given by adobe acrobat reader but yes on page 22 in the manual. However they lumped all-metal under preset discrimination patterns so it sounded like it was all-metal disc with everything notched out. I do like the idea of having multiple tones and TID in All-metal!!! Thanks for your assistance.

Yes, the audio is proportional. And yes, the best way to run is with the machine volume turned up with headphones that have volume control.

Thank you OL - Jim
